Vandoorne onthult nieuwe helm voor 2018 met sponsoring van KFC

Stoffel Vandoorne heeft zijn helm voor het nieuwe seizoen gepresenteerd. Dat heeft hij gedaan middels een video op YouTube en een post op Twitter, waarop hij ook aankondigt dat KFC Indonesia hem dit jaar zal sponsoren.

Het zal dit seizoen niet lastig zijn om de McLaren-coureurs te onderscheiden, zolang de 'halo' het zicht niet blokt. Fernando Alonso rijdt met een een grotendeels blauwe helm, terwijl Vandoorne gekozen heeft voor een ontwerp in de kleuren van de Belgische vlag. Rood neemt daarbij een iets minder prominente plaats in dan vorig jaar terwijl het geel juist opvallender aanwezig is. Daarnaast hebben de sponsoren Kimoa en KFC Indonesia een plaatsje gekregen op de helm van de Belg.

    Gelukkig zijn ze van de witte sponsor streep afgestapt bij McLaren.
    De helmen komen hierdoor veel beter to zijn recht.

    De Indonesische KFC? Waarom geen Belgische sponsor? Burger King heeft bijvoorbeeld alle restaurants overgenomen van Quick en dat zou een goede sponsor zijn?

      Omdat de familie Gelael, die KFC Indonesia bestiert, al jaren een héél sterke aanwezigheid in de autosport heeft:
      - Sean Gelael zelf kan er zijn escapades mee betalen
      - Tom Blomquist, Tom Dillmann en Mitch Evans krijgen sponsoring als voormalige drivercoach van Sean
      - Antonio Giovinazzi heeft lang Pertamina en KFC sponsoring gehad
      - Nyck de Vries heeft er van geprofiteerd doordat zijn manager bij Gelael aanklopte

      en schijnbaar heeft het management van Stoffel dat nu ook gedaan. Als je in eigen land geen sponsor kan vinden, moet je inventief worden en blijkbaar biedt de Gelael-clan hem een uitweg.

      Jagonya Ayam, de naam van de indonesische KFC, is behoorlijk actief met sponsoring in de racerij in tegenstelling tot de burger king. Het bedrijf is eigendom van de vader van Sean Geleal, de F2 coureur en vrijdag rijder bij STR. Dus dat ze nu een F1 coureur sponsoren is niet helemaal vreemd. Het verbaast me eerder dat ze Stoffel genomen hebben.

      De KFC franchise is van dezelfde eigenaar als Burger King. Echter de Indonesische KFC is ‘slechts’ een franchiser. Als KFC/Burger King internationaal zich bemoeid heeft met deze sponsoring, dan had ik toch voor het logo van Burger King of Quick gekozen voor op de helm van Stoffel. Gelijk een leuke campagne eraan koppelen zoals bijvoorbeeld Jumbo doet met Max in Nederland!?

      Dat zeggen ze van Coulthard ook, die inmiddels in de winter van z'n cariere zit en bijlange niet zo compleet en winner als Alonso. Wint ROC, maar dan komen ze met het excuus dat de rest niet echt moeite gedaan heeft. eh
