Perez: "Dit was mijn laatste kans op een Formule 1-contract"

Sergio Perez zal volgend seizoen zijn debuut maken in de Formule 1 en volgens hem was dit zijn laatste kans. De Mexicaan eindigde in 2010 als tweede in het GP2-kampioenschap. "Dit was denk ik mijn laatste kans om het tot de Formule 1 te maken."

Volgens Perez zou een derde seizoen in de GP2 Series het moeilijk hebben gemaakt om alsnog in de Formule 1 te komen. "Halverwege de gesprekken met teams in de Formule 1 stond ik vierde of vijfde in de tussenstand. Carlos Slim was toen duidelijk tegen me en vertelde dat ik mee moest strijden om de titel als ik kans wilde maken op een Formule 1-contract. Zo niet, dan wordt je al snel vergeten."
