Hoge opkomst verwacht voor Australische Grand Prix

De organisatie van de Grand Prix van Australië rekent op hoge toeschouwersaantallen voor de opening van het Formule 1-seizoen 2018. Vorig jaar werd het weekend op het circuit van Albert Park in Melbourne bijgewoond door 296.600 toeschouwers, een stijging van 9 procent ten opzichte van 2016.

Voor de editie van dit jaar verwacht de Australische Grand Prix die cijfers te overtreffen. Promotor Andrew Westacott vertelde aan Speedcafe.com: "Dit zou ons best bezocht raceweekend in het laatste decennium kunnen worden, met gemak. Alles wijst erop dat we veel fans mogen verwelkomen dit weekend."

"De Formule 1 maakt een frisse doorstart en er heerst een nieuw gevoel. De V8 Supercars is als herboren en het programma met ondersteunende raceklasses en entertainment naast de baan is beter dan we ooit gehad hebben. De kaartverkoop verloopt beter dan de afgelopen tien jaar. Met de positieve prestaties van Daniel Ricciardo en Red Bull Racing tijdens de wintertests belooft dit een speciale editie te worden."

Het recordaantal bezoekers voor de Australische Grand Prix in Melbourne staat op 401.000 toeschouwers, bij het debuut op de Formule 1-kalender in 1996.

Scheurtjes in het asfalt

Overigens heeft het circuit van Albert Park wel betere tijden gekend. Her en der zijn scheurtjes in het asfalt waarneembaar. Vooralsnog zijn er geen signalen dat het wegdek in een zorgwekkende toestand verkeert, maar het is wel een puntje van aandacht voor de toekomst.

Erg spannend die foto's van het asfalt. Ik zie 1 scheur, 1 flink remspoor en 2 foto's van stukken gerepareerd wegdek.
Die scheur wordt echt nog wel gerepareerd, die rubber strepen is alleen maar extra rubber op deze plekjes in deze bocht.
