Ricciardo dicht Red Bull Racing kansen toe in Bahrein

Red Bull Racing-coureur Daniel Ricciardo gelooft dat zijn werkgever zich dit weekend in Bahrein kan mengen in de strijd om de ereplaatsen. De Australiër finishte in eigen land als vierde, maar het feit dat hij de snelste raceronde reed verraadt dat er misschien meer in had gezeten. Beide Red Bull Racing-coureurs zaten in Melbourne echter voortdurend klem in verkeer.

Ricciardo hoopt dat Red Bull Racing wel het ware gezicht van de RB14 kan laten zien. "Onze snelheid was ook in Australië al echt heel goed. Die snelste ronde van mij was op banden die al twintig ronden oud waren. Ik was aan het pushen achter Kimi Raikkonen in de hoop dat hij een foutje zou maken, dus ik was het rubber zeker niet aan het sparen. Een paar rondjes voor het einde deed ik het twee rondes rustiger aan om een gat te creëren, daarna zette ik aan voor die snelste ronde."

"Ik wist dat ik harder zou kunnen, maar ik dacht niet dat het zoveel harder kon. Op een vrije baan waren we zeer sterk. Toen ik nog achter de Haas F1 zat, vroeg mijn engineer hoeveel harder ik dacht te kunnen gaan. Drie tienden, antwoordde ik. Maar na hun pitstops ging ik een volle seconde harder. Dus we hadden echt veel meer achter de hand. Als we komende zondag dezelfde auto hebben als tijdens de race in Melbourne, dan dicht ik ons zeker kansen op een mooi resultaat toe."

Kwalificaties

Met de racesnelheid zit het wel snor bij Red Bull Racing. Het kwalificatietempo is een ander verhaal. Daarin moet de Oostenrijkse renstal nog zijn meerdere erkennen in zowel Mercedes als Ferrari. Ricciardo: "Op de zaterdagen komt het meer aan op de motor. Ik denk niet dat we in Bahrein kunnen wat Mercedes en Ferrari wel kunnen in de kwalificaties. Je spreekt alles aan, maar bij hun lijkt dat alles net een beetje meer dan ons alles."

"In de races lijken wij beter om te springen met de banden, maar ik weet niet precies waar dat verschil vandaan komt. Voorde kwalificatie moeten we dus nog iets zien te vinden. Het is niet alleen de motor, het zit ook in de auto, al voelde de wagen ook in de kwalificatie niet verkeerd aan. We konden niet meer voorvleugel steken. Ideaal gezien hadden we aan de voorkant nog wat meer grip gehad, al had dat voor de uitslag waarschijnlijk weinig uitgemaakt."

  RBR staat bij deze kwalificatie tussen Mercedes en Ferrari, zeker weten. En met de langere DRS zones kan het in de race ook nog wel eens zeer interessant worden wie er met de winst vandoor gaat.

  Het ligt er een beetje aan of Ferrari de wegligging al wat beter voor elkaar heeft. Motorisch is Ferrari ijzersterk volgens mij. Merc ook uiteraard. RBR zou wel op racepace potten kunnen breken maar in de kwali ben ik niet zo zeker. Ik verwacht iig een mooie gevecht vooraan.

Ik denk ook dat rbr een betere race pace heeft dan fer en erg dicht op mb zit.
Zo niet sneller is.
In aus kwam dat niet uit de verf maar hopelijk zien we dat dit weekend.
Ik denk dat ham het een stuk lastiger had gehad om die rbr van zich af te houden

Schijnt, volgens een andere site, dat de geruchten gaan dat Ricciardo volgend jaar naast Vettel in de Ferrari rijdt. Hij zou al een optie hebben getekend hiervoor.
Mercedes zou als alternatief voor Bottas alleen naar Ocon kijken.

  Als het om de meest betrouwbare bron gaat vertrouw ik nog het meeste op de roze krant en daar lees ik nog niets evenals autosprint ook niet, maar dat hij gaat vertrekken lijkt me wel duidelijk.
