Stroll luistert niet naar commentaar van Villeneuve

Williams-coureur Lance Stroll heeft wel wat beters te doen dan bij te houden wat Jacques Villeneuve allemaal roept. Villeneuve, wereldkampioen Formule 1 in 1997, heeft zich meermaals neerbuigend over zijn jonge landgenoot Stroll uitgelaten. De Canadees beweerde laatst nog dat Robert Kubica de ontwikkeling van de FW41 'saboteert' om zo zijn kansen op het stoeltje van Stroll te vergroten.

Stroll haalt zijn schouders op. "Ik ben me niet bewust van dit verhaal. Ik heb zijn commentaar niet gelezen, dus ik kan er weinig over zeggen. Vorig jaar verkondigde hij nog dat ik de slechtste rookie uit de geschiedenis van de Formule 1 was. De laatste keer dat ik keek, had ik wel een podiumplek behaald in mijn debuutjaar. Ik ben van de eerste rij gestart en verzamelde veertig punten, drie minder dan mijn teamgenoot die zestien jaar Formule 1-ervaring had. Dus ik luister niet naar wat Jacques te zeggen heeft. Ik heb andere prioriteiten."

Zoals de matige vorm waarin Williams aan het seizoen 2018 is begonnen. Stroll vervolgt: "Ik voel me goed omdat we dit weekend in Bahrein over nieuwe onderdelen voor de auto beschikken. Maar het klopt dat Australiër frustrerend was. Met de wagen die we daar hadden, kwamen we niet eens in de buurt van Q3. Ik ga niet in detail treden over waar het aan schort. Dat is iets tussen de engineers en ons, maar we weten wat we moeten verbeteren."

Hij heeft wel iets bereikt wat Hulkenberg of Sainz bijvoorbeeld nog niet gelukt is. Terecht dat hij daar trots op is. Zou ik ook zijn.

    misschien moet hij dat wel doen? Hij kan zich nu nog verbergen achter het feit dat zijn teamgenoot nieuw is en nog langzamer... en dus zeggen dat de auto geowon langzaam is... Maar straks als zijn teamgenoot wel sneller word... aai..

    Ik ben geen Stroll fan, maar dat hij niet naar Sjaak luistert heeft hij groot gelijk in. Dat zou niemand moeten doen.

    Wat zittie nou nog steeds met zijn eerste podium en eerste startrij.
    Voor de statistiek mooi, maar niet door zijn kwaliteit. Gebruik dit dan niet elke keer als excuus omdat hij donders goed weet hoe en waarom.

      @Kubica, daar deden er maar 6 mee. Kun je met geen mogelijkheid vergelijken. In Baku ging gewoon het hele veld van start. Dat anderen dan zo dom zijn om hun kansen te verspelen moeten zij weten. Stroll bleef wel op de baan.

      @SENNINHA1981: Ik zeg ook niet dat hij niet trots moet zijn. Ik zou dat ook zijn.
      Maar hij moet niet gaan pochen met die resultaten alsof die komen door zijn kwaliteiten.
      Baku: 3e Plaats komt door uitvallen van zo'n beetje de gehele top
      Monza: niet slecht gereden in de regen, maar als 2/3 van het veld door gridpenalty's werd teruggezet.

      Al met al niet slecht maar zeker niet omdat hij zo goed was.

    Het is schitterend hoor die podiumplek maar die kreeg hij ook zowat naar zijn hoofd gesmeten. Voor de rest vind ik hem tot nu toe behoorlijk grillig. En dan met maar heel weinig indrukwekkende uitschieters. Neeee Strolliewollie, vooralsnog heeft Villeneuve wel een puntje
