Kevin Magnussen: "Alles liep op rolletjes"

Na een sterk openingsweekend in Melbourne staat Haas F1 er in Bahrein ook goed voor, althans in de persoon van Kevin Magnussen. De Deen reed een zevende tijd in de kwalificatie, maar schuift door de gridstraf van Mercedes-coureur Lewis Hamilton een plekje naar voren. Magnussen is blij met zijn kwalificatie, die naar eigen zeggen op rolletjes liep.

"Het ging goed en ik ben blij met de uitkomst van de kwalificatie. Het is altijd een uitdaging om de banden hier goed te laten werken: je krijgt ze of niet op temperatuur of ze worden te worden. Het raamwerk waarin de banden goed werken is dus heel klein. Het was goed om te zien dat ik gedurende de kwalificatie steeds meer vertrouwen kreeg in de auto. Er had nog meer ingezeten, de verschillen zijn klein. Voor de race zijn er nog wat vraagtekens: onze lange runs op vrijdag zagen er goed uit, maar we weten niet of het goed genoeg is om onze plek in de race vast te houden. De grootste uitdaging vormen de banden, we gaan ons best doen de slijtage zo goed mogelijk onder controle te houden", aldus Magnussen in een reactie op de officiële website van Haas F1.

In de andere VF-18 kwam Romain Grosjean er niet aan te pas: de Fransman strandde in Q1 en start de race als zestiende.

Mee eens Ray, GRO komt altijd zo angsthazerig over en MAG toont ballen, net wat ik graag zie in de F1. Makkelijk zeggen natuurlijk vanuit mijn luie stoel, maar lui met ballen van staal die ergens voor gaan in een race vind ik toch de F1 leuk maken :-)

Wat worden ze te worden? ;)

Ik ben benieuwd hoe lang Haas mee kan doen in de punten dit seizoen. Zeer sterk begin van het seizoen. Gezien er weinig reglementswijzigingen zijn doorgevoerd dit seizoen, vraag ik me af wat ze anders hebben gedaan deze winter. Zoveel meer pace vinden in de winter is opvallend. Of is het dan toch voor een groot deel te danken aan het "replica" element in de wagen?

Mooie vent! Begin m steeds meer te waarderen. Na zijn eerste jaar F1 had ik m eigenlijk al afgeschreven en ik denk met mij velen anderen.

Mooi figuur die Magnussen. Vorig jaar ben ik m echt gaan waarderen. Hard racen en schijt aan wat anderen daar van vinden. Hard maar geen ongeleid projectiel. Gaaf dat ze nu voorin mee kunnen doen. Nu wel die punten pakken want later in het seizoen kan dat nog weleens lastig worden.
