Magnussen trots op Haas F1 na sportieve revanche

Haas F1 Team revancheerde zich in Bahrein voor de slechte afloop van de Australische Grand Prix twee weken eerder. In Melbourne lag de Amerikaanse renstal op koers om met beide coureurs dik in de punten te eindigen, totdat twee mislukte pitstops roet in het eten gooiden. Voor Bahrein husselde Haas F1 de pitcrew door elkaar en dat had resultaat.

De pitstops verliepen nu gesmeerd en Kevin Magnussen bekroonde een sterk optreden met een vijfde plaats, een evenaring van het beste resultaat uit de geschiedenis van Haas F1 Team. De Deen was zeer te spreken over de prestatie van zijn werkgever in Bahrein. "Ik ben trots op het team, met name op de pitcrew. Ze hebben Australië uit hun geheugen gewist en prima pitstops afgeleverd. Het was geen vierde plek, maar bijna. Vijfde is gewoon een goed resultaat. Na Melbourne was het fijn om punten te pakken, een mooi resultaat te behalen en ons kampioenschap op gang te helpen."

Haas F1 Team is sterk uit de winter tevoorschijn gekomen. Het is nu zaak om dit zo lang mogelijk vol te houden, stelt Magnussen. "Ik hoop dat we competitief zijn, maar de opdracht is om dit niveau en deze performance nu door te trekken. Het wordt niet makkelijk. De middenmoot zit dicht bij elkaar en is extreem competitief, dus we moeten blijven pushen en kunnen ons niet veroorloven om stil te blijven staan."

Ik begin een beetje fan te worden van Magnussen. Er is altijd wel actie rondom hem en aangezien hij "gewoon" een middenmotor is, maakt het voor mij niet echt uit als hij soms lomp doet. Brengt leven in de brouwerij, zowel op de baan als met zijn boardradio's.

  Hij maakt in ieder geval meer emotie ‘los’ dan Grosjean. Met hem ben ik inmiddels wel klaar. Hij heeft in het verleden mooie dingen laten zien, maar die tijd is ver weg... vooralsnog is hij zijn teammaat niet meet de baas en bakt hij er weinig meer van. Hij kan zijn hoop op een zitje bij Ferrari dan ook heel ver opbergen.
