Eerste CE en ES van Valtteri Bottas nog inzetbaar

Goed nieuws voor Mercedes-coureur Valtteri Bottas, de Control Electronics (CE) en de Energy Store (ES) die na de Australische Grand Prix vervangen moesten worden in zijn auto zijn gewoon nog inzetbaar. De Fin heeft daar op de vrijdag in Bahrein mee getest en de resultaten vormden voor Mercedes aanleiding om het sein op groen te zetten.

Rijders mogen dit seizoen slechts twee exemplaren van de CE en de ES verbruiken, dus het acute gevaar voor een grid penalty voor Bottas is voorlopig geweken. Hij hoeft zich vooralsnog geen zorgen te maken dat hij plaatsen op de startopstelling in moet leveren.

Bottas staat aan de vooravond van zijn 100ste Grand Prix. De 28-jarige Fin debuteerde in 2013 voor het team van Williams en in 2017 diende zich de geweldige kans aan om naar Mercedes over te stappen als opvolger van de gestopte Nico Rosberg. Die kans greep hij met beide handen aan en met drie overwinningen en vier pole positions dwong hij een contractverlenging voor dit seizoen af.
