Fernando Alonso: "Ook zonder WEC had ik niet getest"

Fernando Alonso zal na de Grand Prix van Spanje niet deelnemen aan de tests op het Circuit de Catalunya. De Spanjaard combineert in deze periode de Formule 1 met de aanloop naar de 24 uur van Le Mans en de agenda zit dus aardig vol.

Schema zit vol

Komend weekend neemt hij met een team van Toyota deel aan de zes uur van Spa-Francorchamps. Dit is zijn debuut in het World Endurance Championship en belangrijk als voorbereiding op Le Mans. En na de race begint de voorbereiding op de Grand Prix van Spanje volgende week. Met vervolgens de Grand Prix van Monaco en Canada nog voor Le Mans op 16 juni is het schema aardig vol.

'Nee' gezegd in februari

Alonso hierover: "Wij hebben de testkalender in februari besproken en ze vroegen mij of ik na de Grand Prix in Barcelona wilde testen. Ik heb nee gezegd en dat betekent voor mij meer rust. Maar ook als ik de WEC niet had gedaan dan was ik waarschijnlijk alsnog thuis geweest." Zoals al eerder bekend was nemen Stoffel Vandoorne, Lando Norris en Oliver Turvey het over van de tweevoudig wereldkampioen.
