Stoffel Vandoorne mist gevoel met auto

Voor McLaren-coureur Stoffel Vandoorne zijn de eerste vier races van het Formule 1-seizoen 2018 niet volledig naar wens verlopen. De Belg kan in zijn tweede seizoen in de koningsklasse van de autosport nog niet tippen aan de prestaties van teamgenoot Fernando Alonso. McLaren brengt een flink aantal updates mee naar Barcelona, maar volgens Vandoorne zitten de andere teams ook niet stil en is het afwachten wat de updates McLaren gaan brengen in Barcelona.

Volgens Vandoorne is het grootste probleem met de MCL33 van McLaren dat hij het gevoel mist in de wagen en de auto zich soms onvoorspelbaar gedraagt: "De achterkant is niet stabiel genoeg wanneer we insturen. Soms doet de wagen andere dingen dan je zou verwachten. Het lukt mij daarom vooralsnog niet om alles uit de auto te halen, Fernando Alonso kan er beter mee omgaan. Het gevoel wat ik heb met de auto was eind 2017 beter dan nu. Hopelijk brengen de updates ons iets, het is afwachten of we er een echte stap vooruit mee gaan zetten. De races na Barcelona introduceren we ook nieuwe onderdelen, het zou dus steeds beter moeten gaan."

Vandoorne bezet momenteel de veertiende plek in het kampioenschap met acht WK-punten. Teamgenoot Fernando Alonso heeft reeds 28 WK-punten gescoord en heeft in alle tot nu toe verreden races een puntenfinish genoteerd.

    Begin vorig jaar had Stoffel hier ook problemen mee en McLaren heeft toen de auto meer naar zijn stijl kunnen ontwikkelen. De vergelijking met Button komt in mij op. Die moest ook een auto precies in zijn sweetspot hebben.

    Da's ook niet echt moeilijk, de Mcl33 is meer naar de stijl van Alonso ontworpen.
    Gewoon afwachten wat de updates gaan brengen.
    Verder, gewoon punten blijven pakken..

      Alonso heeft niet echt een stijl wat dat betreft en heeft net als de meeste coureurs het liefst een neutrale wagen maar kan ook overweg met een meer ondersturende of oversturende auto. Vroeger werd altijd hard geroepen dat de Ferrari met onderstuur was ontwikkeld omdat het een voorkeur van Alonso zou zijn. Nu is er bij de McLaren blijkbaar een probleem met grip achter en heeft de wagen af en toe onverwacht overstuur. Kan me slecht voorstellen dat dit zo is ontwikkeld. Is gewooneen onvolkomenheid waar van Doorne meer last van heeft dan Alonso

      Zeer slecht excuus. Hij komt gewoon tekort, hij is niet wat er iedereen van gehoopt had.

      @perestijn is geen excuus. Is gewoon eerlijk zijn en zeggen dat je nog niet het uiterste uit de wagen kan halen en dat Alonso dit wel kan.

      Zeg dan niets, die jongen kan een aardig potje sturen.
      Saintz heeft hetzelfde probleem.
      Je moet je 100% goed voelen met de auto om het maxinale uit het pakket te halen.
      Dat zijn net die paar tienden die je dan mist.

      Kraai, vorig jaar kwam hij ook al een aantal tienden tekort, hij heeft het net niet, dit is mijn mening en daar kan je het mee doen en zwijgen nooit!

    Ik vind het jammer voor Stoffel. Ik weet ook niet of ik zou toegeven dat ik het gevoel met de auto mis...
    Ik hoop oprecht dat hij ons nog eens gaat verrassen, maar ik geloof er niet heel hard meer in. Jammer!

      Stroll heeft alles door geld gekregen. Altijd beste wagen bij de opstapklasses terwijl Vandoorne alles zelf heeft gedaan.

      Ook Stoffel is het niet gelukt zonder geld.
      Hij heeft zelfs een deel gekregen van de Belgische autosport federatie.
      Zonder geld kom je niet zover.

      Maar ik begrijp wat je bedoeld, hij is inderdaad zoals de meeste zelf op zoek moeten gaan naar sponsors.

      @stoffelman ook al in de kartwereld moest hij veel op zijn eentje opknappen en al met sponsoring omgaan. Zijn vader heeft wel wat geld maar lang niet voldoende om een race carrière te financieren.
