Max Verstappen: "Paul Ricard wordt een nieuwe uitdaging"

Na zijn podiumplaats in Montreal reist Max Verstappen af naar het voor hem en de andere coureurs onbekende circuit van Paul Ricard. Veel coureurs testten in het verleden al op de baan voor bandenfabrikant Pirelli, maar de configuratie voor de Grand Prix van Frankrijk werd daarbij niet gebruikt. Voor Verstappen en de andere negentien coureurs is het circuit dan ook een stap in het onbekende.

Op Verstappen.nl blikt Verstappen vooruit op de race in Frankrijk. Het is voor het eerst sinds 2008 dat het circus het land van wijn en stokbrood weer aandoet: "Races heb ik nooit gereden op Paul Ricard, enkel voor Pirelli heb ik er tests afgewerkt met de banden. Ik kijk wel uit naar het weekend, het is altijd leuk om op een nieuw circuit te rijden. Ik denk dat we ook op Paul Ricard competitief kunnen zijn, in de bochten kunnen we het verlies op de rechte stukken compenseren."

Verstappen hoopt na zijn goede prestaties in Canada in Frankrijk de goede lijn door te trekken. De race in Frankrijk vormt het startpunt van een drukke fase in het Formule 1-seizoen: de komende zes weken worden er vijf Grands Prix verreden.

      De lay-out an sich vindt ik wel tof, maar het zijn die uitloopstroken die het vergallen voor mij.

      Zelfde probleem bij de COTA, lay-out best in orde maar die enorme asfaltvlakte overal waar je met gemak een Antonov An-225 kunt landen verpest iedere beleving,

    Meerdere jonge coureurs hebben dit circuit al in de opstap klassen gereden,
    zoals Sainz, Ocon, Sirotkin en nog een paar.
    Een paar andere coureurs, waaronder Max hebben hier alleen een regenbanden
    test afgelegd op een half circuit.

    Ja dat hopen wij allemaal.
    Er moet echter niet te vroeg gejuicht worden na een redelijke race van Max.

      Er is een overschot aan lijnen op Paul Ricard, zolang je de zwarte volgt zit je aardig goed.

    ach als je hier een foutje maakt heb je uitloopstroken van 1km lang.... gewoon bij de eerste 4 proberen te starten en weer een podium pakken.

    Circuit met voldoende bochten naast de rechte stukken waar de Red Bull redelijk uit de voeten zou moeten kunnen, maar met de update van Mercedes kan het toch een verdomd saaie race worden waar HAM met 2 vingers in de neus vanaf pole naar finish rijdt.

    Ik heb een vermoeden dan Max het wel eens erg goed kan gaan doen komend weekend.. Hij heeft in het verleden namelijk al bewezen zich erg goed en snel te kunnen aanpassen aan nieuwe omstandigheden, beter dan de meeste andere rijders in de F1.. Maar veel zal natuurlijk ook afhangen van hoe goed de RB14 het op dit circuit gaat doen..

      Ik weet het niet hoor, er zit een technisch gedeelte in maar ook 3 à 4 lange rechte stukken.. Maar wie weet, vorige race deed de Renault motor op de rechte stukken het ook beter dan ik verwacht had.
