VT3: Valtteri Bottas snelste in verregende sessie, geen tijd voor Verstappen

Valtteri Bottas heeft de snelste tijd in de derde en afsluitende vrije training van de Grand Prix van Frankrijk gereden. In een verregende sessie was de Mercedes-coureur ruim een seconde sneller dan Carlos Sainz en Charles Leclerc. Verstappen reed alleen een installatieronde en werd daarom als twintigste geklasseerd.

Bij aanvang van de afsluitende vrije training diende de regen zich al aan. Donkere wolken pakte zich samen boven Circuit Paul Ricard en dat betekende dat vrijwel iedereen direct naar buiten kwam om van de droge baan te profiteren. Dat kon maar hele kortstondig, want binnen vijf minuten kwam de regen al naar beneden. Dat was aanvankelijk alleen in bochten 4, 5 en 6. Na tien minuten kwam de regen overal met bakken uit de hemel en parkeerde iedereen zijn auto in de pits.

Geen representatieve rondetijden in VT3

Bottas had op dat moment met 1:33.666 de snelste tijd gereden. Daarmee was hij 1,2 seconden sneller dan Sainz en anderhalve tel sneller dan Leclerc. Fernando Alonso, Sebastian Vettel, Stoffel Vandoorne, Pierre Gasly, Marcus Ericsson, Sergio Perez en Daniel Ricciardo rondden de top 10 af, maar reden ook geen representatieve tijden.

Met nog tien minuten van te gaan in de sessie gingen toch een aantal coureurs nog even het circuit op. Alonso was de eerste die zich daaraan waagde, maar hij keerde na een ronde alweer terug in de pits. Lance Stroll en Sergey Sirotkin waren de enige die zich waagden aan een getimede ronde, die uiteindelijk bijna een halve minuut langzamer waren dan de snelste tijd van Bottas.

Wat een aanfluiting dat de coureurs maar 3 setjes full wets en maar 4 setjes inters mogen gebruiken, weet je tenminste zeker dat ze amper tot niet gaan rijden in een VT.

Volgens mij was Verstappen wel naar buiten gereden, en miste zelfs nog ergens een chicane. Toch geen actie?

  Ja, maar ze schreven "Verstappen kwam de hele training niet in actie" en dat is dus niet waar, hij heeft alleen maar geen tijd neergezet.

  Klopt eigenlijk ook hé.
  Om een tijd te zetten moet je eerst een volledige ronde gereden hebben.
  Tijdens de eerste ronde begon het reeds in bocht 5 te regenen.

  Er zijn er toch een aantal die een ronde gereden hebben hoor.
  Volgens mij hadden de meeste gewoon schrik om schade op te lopen voor de qualificatie.

Volgens laatste prognose komen er halverwege de quali hevige onweersbuien opzetten dus kan misschien nog wel tot uitstel leiden voor wat betreft Q2 en Q3.
Wordt een loterij denk ik dus wie op het juiste moment op de baan is pakt een goede startplaats.
