Mercedes neemt geen risico: nieuwe motor voor Bottas op Silverstone

Valtteri Bottas rijdt tijdens de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittanië met een nieuwe motor achterin zijn Mercedes. De Fin viel tijdens de Oostenrijkse race uit door een hydraulisch probleem en zijn team wil geen enkel risico nemen. Hierdoor krijgt Bottas een nieuwe krachtbron.

James Allison, technisch directeur van Mercedes, meldt dat dit de normaalste zaak van de wereld is. "Iedere keer dat de auto plotseling en op een ongewone manier langs de kant wordt gezet, weten we niet zeker of alle noodzakelijke checks wel zijn uitgevoerd. We kunnen dan dus ook niet met honderd procent zekerheid zeggen of alle onderdelen onbeschadigd zijn", aldus Allison tegenover GPupdate.net.

Bottas hoeft overigens dit weekend nog niet te vrezen voor een gridstraf, maar de kans bestaat wel dat de Fin daar in een van de komende races tegenaan loopt. De motor die gebruikt werd tijdens de Grand Prix van Oostenrijk wordt nu door Mercedes onderzocht, waarna het team deze tijdens de race op Hockenheim weer wil gebruiken.
