Daniel Ricciardo ondanks aankomende gridstraf positief: "Zin om mensen in te halen"

Voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van Duitsland deden er al geruchten de ronde dat Red Bull-coureur een gridstraf zou pakken vanwege het onreglementair wisselen van meerdere onderdelen. Het nieuws werd voorafgaand aan de vrije trainingen op Hockenheim bevestigd, waardoor Ricciardo de Grand Prix van Duitsland in de achterhoede zal starten. Druk maakt de Australische teamgenoot van Max Verstappen zich er niet om, Ricciardo laat na afloop van de vrije trainingen van vandaag weten juist zin te hebben in de race.

Tijdens de lange runs in vrije training werd duidelijk dat Red Bull het vooralsnog prima voor elkaar heeft op de snelle Hockenheimring. Ricciardo, die in 2016 tweede werd in Duitsland, laat aan Sky Sports weten zin te hebben in de race: "Een paar races geleden wist ik al dat ik hier waarschijnlijk mijn eerste straf zou gaan pakken. Het stelt mij dan ook niet teleur, ik heb me erop ingesteld. Ondanks dat ik zondag achteraan zal starten, heb ik wel zin in de race. Je kunt hier goed inhalen en ik vind het leuk om andere coureurs in te halen. Omdat we weten dat we achteraan zullen beginnen, ligt de focus voor de laatste vrije training vooral op de laatste voorbereidingen op de race. In de kwalificatie komen we tekort en met onze straf heeft het geen zin al ons geld daar op te zetten."

Ondanks dat de motorwissel gepland was lijkt Red Bull ook meteen gebruik te gaan maken van meer tactische motorwissels gedurende het weekend. Doel van die tactiek is om zoveel mogelijk nieuwe motoronderdelen in de 'pool' van Daniel Ricciardo te krijgen.

wordt gewoon minimaal P6 zondag voor hem in een RBR. Meer niet of er moeten uitvallen van de MB - Ferrari en Max. Hopelijk kan Max naar een mooi podium... zou top zijn.

  Ligt eraan. Als Max in de race een probleem heeft of straf krijgt dan kun je er donder op zeggen dat Lucky Ricciardo minimaal P2 pakt.

  RIC krijgt weer lekker extra zendtijd bij de inhaalrace. Eens kijken of ie vanaf P20 net zo snel als HAM naar een P6 kan rijden. HAM deed er 10 rondes over van P18 naar P6.

  Nou Stoffetje zal waarschijnlijk in de 1e ronde worden ingehaald door Ricciardo en zoals gewoonlijk op 1 of 2 laps worden gezet als ie de wagen heel houdt en de motor blijft draaien.

  Er is weinig mis meen zoals Honda nu stapjes zet hoor, McLaren is er met een Honda niet uitgekomen, rara wat is daar de reden van?
  Datzelfde McLaren gaat met het Renault torretje ook niet bepaald goed hoor?

Na de start ligt ie op plek 12 en als er op de helft van de race een safety car komt kan hij zoweer meedoen met de top 6. Beetje het nadeel van het grote verschil tussen de top 3 teams en de rest.
