Fernando Alonso hoopt op natte kwalificatie

Voor McLaren is het weekend op de Hockenheingring slecht begonnen. Fernando Alonso kwam niet verder dan een zeventiende tijd, terwijl teamgenoot Stoffel Vandoorne genoegen moest nemen met de laatste plaats. Volgens Alonso is er niet zo veel aan de hand en kan het team nog wel een paar tienden vinden in de auto, toch hoopt de Spanjaard op regen.

Voor vandaag wordt er regen voorspeld op de Hockenheimring en dat speelt Alonso wel in de kaart: "We hebben veel nieuwe dingen getest en dat is ook een verklaring voor onze posities. Natuurlijk moeten we het beter doen, maar die paar tienden vinden we wel. We hopen dat we in de derde training de auto naar onze hand kunnen zetten en dat er wat regen gaat vallen tijdens de kwalificatie. Een nat circuit zou ons zeker helpen."

Alonso liet in de aanloop van de Grand Prix van Duitsland al weten dat de snelle baan in zuidwest-Duitsland de McLaren waarschijnlijk niet goed zal liggen. Op basis van de eerste trainingen lijkt de voorspelling te kloppen. Alonso scoorde in de afgelopen twee races twee keer een achtste plaats.
