Wolff over Hamilton: "Zijn zelfvertrouwen is een enorme kracht"

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff vindt dat Lewis Hamilton's religieuze overtuigingen niet veroordeeld moeten worden, maar moeten worden gezien als een essentieel onderdeel voor zijn motivatie naar succes. De Engelsman staat aan de leiding in het kampioenschap en gaat dit jaar voor zijn vijfde wereldkampioenschap. Wolff vindt Hamilton hoe dan ook de beste rijder van het moment, zegt hij tegen F1i.com.

"Lewis heeft een duidelijk beeld van waar hij in gelooft", aldus Wolff. "Dat maakt hem de meest succesvolle rijder van het moment. En ik denk dat het een inspiratie is, zodat hij meer werklust kan vinden in moeilijke periodes." 

Recentelijk zij de Engelsman daarover nog: "God waakt over mij en geeft mij kracht." Iets wat zijn teambaas kan beamen. "Het geeft hem een bijzondere kracht. En waar ik vandaan kom, heb ik geleerd om mensen niet te veroordelen om wat ze nodig hebben om goed te presteren."

      Het zelfvertrouwen dat hij dit zomaar kan doen. Een gebrek aan zelfvertrouwen was meer een reactie geweest waarin hij uitgebreid zijn excuses maakt en om vergiffenis vraagt op verschillende kanalen.

      Ik weet overigens niet of Hamilton zo'n zelfvertrouwen heeft en vraag me ook af of dit zo'n negatief ding is. Immers zonder zelfvertrouwen, let je op alle details en verbeter je jezelf zo veel mogelijk.

    Had Senna ook niet een moment (volgens mij de bizar goede kwalificatie in Monaco) dat hij zei dat hij boven uit de auto steeg, en zichzelf van bovenaf zag rijden.....

    Ik denk dat wel meer grote coureurs vreemde dingen zeggen of gezegd hebben, maar als Hamilton het doet valt meteen de hele wereld erover.

      Komt denk ik omdat Lewis iets gemaakt over zich heeft. Dan hoeft niet zo te zijn natuurlijk.

      Dat was de kwalificatie uit '89 in Monaco Damon.

      Het grote nadeel voor coureurs van nu is de veel kleinere digitale wereld t.o.v. de wereld van bijvoorbeeld Senna en Prost. Alles ligt nu onder een extra grote vergrootglas en dankzij o.a. social media heeft nagenoeg een ieder ter wereld binnen een minuut zijn of haar gal kunnen spuwen wat nagenoeg over ter wereld direct leesbaar is. Dat is iets anders dan een uitspraak van een coureur pas een volgende dag in de krant te lezen, of pas weer bij een volgend tv journaal te zien ;-)

      Ik denk dat de Ferrari momenteel toch n stukje beter is momenteel , maar de voorbije jaren kon Mercedes inderdaad op de motor leunen
