Wolff heeft regelmatig contact met Niki Lauda: "We missen hem"

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff zegt dat hij nog regelmatig contact heeft met Formule 1-legende Niki Lauda. Samen besturen zij het succesvolle Mercedes-team, maar een paar weken geleden onderging de 69-jarige Lauda een levensreddende longtransplantatie. Op dit moment verblijft hij in het ziekenhuis in Vienna, om aan zijn herstel te werken.

"Iedereen binnen het team mist hem", zegt Wolf tegenover Die Welt. "Ik mis hem misschien nog wel meer dan de anderen doen, want we gaan veel met elkaar om. Als reisgenoot, gesprekspartner en als een vriend. We vonden het belangrijk om 's avonds samen te eten en dan de dag te bespreken. Gewoon met z'n twee. Dus op dit moment ben ik een belangrijke contactpersoon kwijtgeraakt."

Lauda krijgt de Formule 1 wel mee. "Zijn gezondheid is op dit moment het belangrijkste, dus hij heeft rust nodig. Maar ik heb regelmatig contact met hem. Hij kijkt alle races en ik probeer hem in zoveel mogelijk dingen te betrekken."
