Wolff: "Lauda gaat zeker terugkeren in de paddock"

Toto Wolff zegt dat hij er zeker van is dat Niki Lauda uiteindelijk gaat terugkeren in de Formule 1-paddock. Onlangs berichtten we nog dat de Oostenrijker in het Vienna-ziekenhuis op de intensive care aan het herstellen is van een longtransplantatie en hij zal dit seizoen waarschijnlijk niet meer terugkeren in de paddock.

Wolff is er echter van overtuigd dat Lauda in de nabije toekomst weer terug gaat keren. "Niki is lichamelijk natuurlijk verzwakt, maar voor de rest merk je geen verschil. Hij is zijn droge humor zeker nog niet verloren. Hij heeft zoveel kracht en is zo'n geweldige vechter, dat ik ervan overtuigd ben dat hij terug gaat keren in de paddock", zegt de Mercedes-teambaas tegenover Kronen Zeitung.

Het gerucht gaat dat Lauda wellicht in de laatste race in Abu Dhabi zijn rentree gaat maken. "De dokters kunnen die vraag nog niet beantwoorden, maar Niki is in goede handen."
