Helm Gasly wordt onderzocht na incident in Sochi

De helm van Pierre Gasly wordt door fabrikant Arai onderzocht. De aanleiding daarvoor is het incident in Sochi, waarbij een brokstuk tegen het vizier van de helm van de Fransman kwam.

In de eerste ronde van de Grand Prix van Rusland kreeg Gasly een brokstuk van de auto van Daniel Ricciardo tegen zijn vizier. Bild publiceerde een paar dagen later een close-up, waarbij duidelijk zichtbaar is dat er wat schade aangericht is aan het vizier. "Gelukkig ging ik niet zo snel", zei Gasly kort na de race in Sochi al. "Het was misschien anders geweest als ik 300 had gereden aan het einde van het rechte stuk."

Peter Burger, de baas van de Formule 1-afdeling van Arai, geeft aan dat er inmiddels een onderzoek is gestart. Volgens hem is het vizier intact gebleven en is de helm zelf onbeschadigd. "De helm komt terug naar de fabriek en daar wordt deze ook geanalyseerd. Het is belangrijk om alle data te verzamelen na zo'n zware impact."
