Fernando Alonso: "Een full-time IndyCar-seizoen voor 2019 is nooit mijn plan geweest"

Fernando Alonso heeft aangegeven dat een volledig IndyCar-seizoen voor 2019 nooit het plan is geweest. Deze uitspraak kwam daags nadat McLaren had besloten om in 2019 geen full-time auto in te zetten bij de IndyCars.

McLaren was aan het evalueren of men deel kon nemen aan het IndyCar-kampioenschap in 2019. Alonso kondigde afgelopen augustus aan dat hij in 2019 niet deel zou nemen in de Formule 1 en heeft vorige maand in Birmingham, Alabama voor het eerst met een IndyCar op een road course gereden. Dit leidde tot speculaties dat hij in 2019 naar de IndyCar Series zou verhuizen. Veel speculaties kwamen los en men dacht dat McLaren met Zak Brown en Andretti Autosport een deal aan het maken was. Dit bleek niet zo te zijn, mede door de slechte band tussen Alonso en Mclaren aan de ene kant en Honda aan de andere kant.

Echter, de aankondiging van Alonso dat hij geen full-time zitje voor 2019 zoekt zou niet betekenen dat de Spanjaard de Indianapolis 500 voor 2019 zal laten lopen. "Ik ken deze situatie al sinds augustus. Het zal niet van invloed zijn op mijn toekomstplannen," vertelde Alonso aan Movistar.

"Ik ging naar de Verenigde Staten en testte in september een IndyCar om te weten hoe de auto's aanvoelden, maar er was geen verborgen agenda, geen plan voor de toekomst." De relatie tussen Alonso en McLaren zou bekoeld zijn geraakt. Alonso over het niet kunnen samenstellen van een IndyCar-team door McLaren: "Zak heeft het aangekondigd, ik heb het gelezen. Het was een tegenvaller voor mij, maar van de andere kant ook weer niet omdat het nooit de bedoeling was een volledig IndyCar-seizoen te rijden. Ik heb mijn verplichtingen bij Toyota in het WEC, daar wil ik kampioen worden."

Verder bevestigde de tweevoudig wereldkampioen dat hij een optie heeft voor de Indianapolis 500 van 2019. Eerder wisten wij al te melden dat dit via het satelliet team van Andretti Autosport zou kunnen dat gebruik maakt van Chevrolet motoren. Daardoor heeft Alonso niets met Honda van doen. "Ik heb een aanbieding voor 2019 om de Indianapolis 500 te rijden maar ik heb nog geen beslissing genomen."

Kampioen worden met Toyota in het WEC zal niet zo'n probleem worden... Het jaar erop dan maar een vol seizoen IndyCar he....

  Kampioen worden met Toyota in het WEC zal zeker geen probleem worden, er rijden maar 2 auto's in die klasse, beide Toyota's.
  Er is natuurlijk wel een kans dat ie 2e word, laatste wedstrijd is toevallig ook gewonnen door de andere auto, die zonder Alonso.

Volgens mij zei @Matan, die in Spanje in dezelfde Residentie in Spanje als een familielid van Fernando woont op 11 aug 2018 : "Fernando gaat zeker richting Indy Car in 2019 . Krijgt een top auto en een heeeel dik salaris. Alonso een super piloot en een nog betere zakenman . Volgend jaar WEC met Toyota en Indy Car . Dik betaald uiteraard ."

Ik hoop dat hij de Indy 500 gaat rijden. Maar Alonso kennende krijgen we de komende maanden eerst nog wekelijks te horen dat hij het nog niet zeker weet, terwijl hijzelf de keuze al lang gemaakt heeft...

hmm schijn wel dat ie de rechten heeft gekocht voor de spaanse televisie om indycar uit te laten zenden...

en laat Briatore dat in 2003 ook hebben gedaan bij de spaanse tv voor de formule 1..

Daarom testte hij natuurlijk een Indycar op een road course, omdat hij alleen de Indy500 wil rijden.

leuk verzonnen Fernando, maar dat het niet lukt wil niet zeggen dat je het niet wilde
