Versnellingsbakwissel en gridstraf voor Ocon in Brazilië

Esteban Ocon is voorafgaand aan de Grand Prix van Brazilië al tegen een gridstraf aangelopen. De versnellingsbak in de bolide van de Racing Point Force India-coureur wordt vervangen, waardoor hij vijf plaatsen naar achteren wordt gezet op de startopstelling.

Het vervangen van de versnellingsbak van Ocons bolide was niet noodzakelijk. Toch heeft Racing Point Force India uit voorzorg besloten om de wissel door te voeren op basis van data uit de vorige race in Mexico. Ocon reed die race gewoon uit en omdat de versnellingsbak niet de voorgeschreven zes races mee is gegaan, krijgt Ocon een gridstraf van vijf posities.

Ocon is niet de enige coureur die een versnellingsbak wisselt voor de race in Brazilië. Ook Lewis Hamilton, Lance Stroll, Kevin Magnussen, Daniel Ricciardo en Carlos Sainz doen dat, maar zij worden daarvoor niet gestraft omdat zij zes races met hun vorige bak deden of uitvielen in Mexico. Ricciardo liep wel tegen een gridstraf van vijf posities aan voor het vervangen van de turbo in zijn Red Bull.
