Red Bull-coureurs verwachten niet om pole te strijden

De kans is klein dat een van de Red Bull Racing-coureurs zich in Brazilië op pole position kwalificeert. Daniel Ricciardo en Max Verstappen verwachten niet dat een dergelijke prestatie tot de mogelijkheden behoort.

De Red Bulls begonnen sterk aan het weekend met Verstappen op P1 in de eerste vrije training. In de middag moesten Ricciardo en Verstappen het echter doen met de vierde en vijfde positie op meer dan drie tienden van snelste man Valtteri Bottas. Het vooruitzicht dat Ferrari en Mercedes pas in de kwalificatie op vol vermogen gaan rijden, maakt de perspectieven op een pole position niet gunstiger voor Red Bull.

Ricciardo verklaarde na de vrijdag dan ook dat er vooral op zondag kansen liggen. "In deze omstandigheden wordt pole heel lastig. Vanmiddag hadden we een prima auto, maar kwamen we met drie tienden toch teveel tekort. In de kwalificatie zal de concurrentie er nog een schepje bovenop doen, dus de pole lijkt ver weg. De racesnelheid zag er wel goed uit. Het lijkt erop alsof alle bandencompounds goed zijn om op te starten, dus we zullen iets anders proberen op zondag."

Verstappen is het met Ricciardo eens dat de pole position een lastig verhaal wordt voor de Red Bulls. "Ik denk niet dat wij gaan vechten voor de pole. Zodra Mercedes en Ferrari hun motoren openzetten in Q3 krijgen wij het lastig. De auto zit in het juiste window en ik ben redelijk blij met de lange runs. Er zijn wat dingen te verbeteren, maar ik heb er vertrouwen in dat we dat kunnen oplossen."

  Als je niet kijkt hoef je straks ook niet te reageren op de nabeschouwing van VT3, bespaart je mooi weer wat tijd en ergernis.

  Zelfs al zou hij serieus zijn, so what? Ben je een echte formule 1 dan als je alle qualificaties kijkt of pas als je alle vrije trainingen kijkt? Wat een onzin. Geloof niet dat iedereen hier de vrije trainingen in de vroege uurtjes kijkt.

  Sarcasme hier lijkt me overduidelijk.
  
  Vooropgesteld, het overgrote deel van de mensen die hier reageren zijn wel degelijk F1 fan. Ik vermoed dat er maar heel weinig leden hier zijn die de kwalificatie overslaan omdat ze het niet interessant vinden.

Tuurlijk gaan de niet voor pole. Dat rechte stuk omhoog gaat ze een halve seconde kosten als Mgp en Ferrari de motor helemaal opschroeven. Denk dat de verschillen van Vt2 nog groter gaan worden..
