Officieel: Pirelli tot en met 2023 bandenleverancier in Formule 1

De Formule 1 blijft de komende vijf seizoenen nog rijden met banden van Pirelli. Dat bracht de koningsklasse van de autosport op de zondag in Abu Dhabi naar buiten.

Pirelli is sinds begin 2011 de exclusieve bandenleverancier voor de Formule 1. Het contract met de Italiaanse fabrikant liep aan het einde van 2019 af en de FIA gaf andere bandenmakers vervolgens de kans om zich in te schrijven als potentiële nieuwe leverancier. Hankook deed net als Pirelli mee, maar de Koreanen krijgen dus geen kans in de Formule 1. Tot en met 2023 blijven de Formule 1-coureurs dus op Pirelli rijden.

Chase Carey is tevreden dat Pirelli langer aan de sport verbonden blijft. "Pirelli is een belangrijke en gewaardeerde partner van de Formule 1 sinds 2011. Ze zijn leiders in het leveren van topproducten. Ze zijn een premium-merk en een duidelijke globale leider in de motorsport. De voortdurende samenwerking met Pirelli is het bewijs dat ons verlangen is om de Formule 1 te verbinden aan het beste binnen de autosport. We zijn opgelucht dat we deze overeenkomst bereikt hebben, die garandeert dat de Formule 1 op de lange termijn een stabiele toekomst heeft op zo'n cruciaal punt."

FIA-voorzitter Jean Todt is blij dat de ervaring van Pirelli niet verloren gaat. "Ik ben blij dat Pirelli voor een nieuwe periode benoemd is tot bandenleverancier van de Formule 1. Het stelt ons in staat om te genieten van de ervaring die ze sinds 2011 hebben opgedaan. We weten hoe cruciaal en moeilijk de rol van bandenleverancier is, vooral in de Formule 1."

Dat is de eigen domme schuld van de FIA, want een nieuwe bandenleverancier zou namelijk met een hoop extra kosten worden opgezadeld om eerst voor 2020 banden te ontwikkelen voor de 13 inch velg, alvorens er een jaar later wordt overgestapt op de grotere 18 inch velg.

Geen rijder en teambaas is tevreden met Pirelli.

Inhalen is lastig, banden zijn slecht, er staan met moeite 10 teams op de grid... maar echt resultaten als het gaat om het verbeteren van die punten is er ook niet.

nadeel is het inhalen maar de problemen is minstens voor iedereen het zelfde..als ze iets aan de banden strategie kunnen veranderen, zou beter zijn
