Todt waarschuwt Red Bull: "Herinner je 2005 nog?"

Het team van Red Bull Racing was afgelopen jaar extreem dominant in de Formule 1. Max Verstappen werd met overmacht wereldkampioen en hij ontving veel complimenten. Jean Todt weet hoe het is om te werken voor een extreem dominante renstal, hij waarschuwt Red Bull dan ook voor de toekomst.

Red Bull won vorig jaar slechts één Grand Prix niet en Verstappen schreef een recordaantal van negentien races op zijn naam. Red Bull ging daarmee verder met winnen, want ook in 2022 was de Oostenrijkse renstal zeer machtig in de koningsklasse van de autosport. Aangezien de regels afgelopen winter amper zijn veranderd, verwacht men ook dit jaar weer een oppermachtig Red Bull.

Schumacher

Jean Todt was de teambaas van Ferrari in de tijden van de Schumacher-overheersing. De Franse voormalig FIA-president weet dan ook hoe het is om te winnen. In gesprek met de krant La Stampa wijst hij hier ook naar: "Ik zie wel overeenkomsten tussen beide periodes. Red Bull heeft een winnend team gebouwd met een coureur (Verstappen, red.) die buitengewoon presteert en zeer professioneel, intelligent en fantastisch is."

2005

Toch wil Todt Red Bull waarschuwen. De Fransman wijst namelijk naar het rampzalige jaar 2005, toen Ferrari compleet door het ijs zakte na een extreem dominant seizoen. Todt legt het duidelijk uit: "Herinner je het seizoen in 2005 nog? Toen hadden we hetzelfde team en dezelfde coureurs na een seizoen vol met overwinningen. Maar we waren niet meer competitief. In het jaar daarop waren we weer snel, maar uiteindelijk verloren we de titel door betrouwbaarheidsproblemen."

      Klopt, Michelin had toen zeker de betere band,plus het feit dat je moest kwalificeren op de band waar je race moest op uitrijden.
      De FIA had het voor elkaar dat Ferrari terugviel.
      Bij Mercedes hebben ze daar wat langer over gedaan.

    Off topic. Dit gaat over AlphaTauri.

    Franco Nugnes (vaak onbetrouwbaar, maar soms 100% goed geïnformeerd) schreef
    vandaag iets over Simone Resta en Mekies en AlphaTauri op MS Italia.

    Laurent Mekies, AlphaTauri-teambaas, zou Simone Resta (ex Haas en Ferrari) naar
    SAT willen halen, maar Simone Resta zou ook zijn rechterhand Matteo Piraccini
    mee willen nemen en dat zou een obstakel kunnen zijn.

    Ik mag toch hopen dat Todt wel door heeft dat er voor 2005 best significante regelementswijzigingen werden doorgevoerd, met name in het nadeel van Ferrari én Bridgestone en we nu voor 2024 niet zulke significante regelememtswijzigingen hebben.

    Kortom, Red Bull kan gewoon volledig voortborduren op afgelopen jaar, terwijl Ferrari en Bridgestone het concept en de banden moesten wijzigen. Ferrari sloeg de plank al vanaf de mislukte voorvleugel mis en Bridgestone begon op ruime achterstand t.o.v. Michelin.
