Vader Magnussen ziet dat Kevin zich heeft gevestigd

De vader van Kevin Magnussen, oud Formule 1-coureur Jan Magnussen, is blij dat zijn zoon zich in de Formule 1 heeft gevestigd. De Deen had eerder minder succesvolle dienstverbanden bij de teams van McLaren en Renault, voordat hij de overstap maakte naar het team van Haas.

Maar in 2018 won hij de strijd met Romain Grosjean en hij blijft ook volgend jaar bij het Amerikaanse team. Zijn vader Jan Magnussen, die zelf ook in de Formule 1 reed, is trots op zijn zoon. "Ik ben zo trots op hem", zegt Jan tegenover het Deense BT.

"Waar ik het meest trots op ben, is dat hij zich in de Formule 1 gevestigd heeft en dat mensen hem respecteren. Dat is fijn om te zien", aldus de man die in 1998 midden in het seizoen werd ontslagen bij het team van Stewart, vanwege slechte prestaties.

Magnussen heeft op het circuit de status van een 'bad boy', omdat hij wel eens bij incidenten betrokken is, maar volgens Jan doet hem dat niets. "Kevin is er ontspannen onder en hij heeft naam gemaakt in de paddock. Maar mensen mogen hem echter wel. Fernando Alonso mag hem misschien niet echt, maar daar maak ik me geen zorgen over."
