Kubica baalt van mislopen Alonso bij terugkeer in Formule 1

Robert Kubica keert in 2019 na acht seizoenen terug in de Formule 1. Hij kan het nu echter niet meer opnemen tegen Fernando Alonso en daar vindt de Pool toch wel jammer.

Het verhaal van Kubica is inmiddels meer dan bekend. Begin 2011 leek de Formule 1-carrière van de Pool tot een vroegtijdig einde te komen na een zware crash tijdens een rally. De enkelvoudig Grand Prix-winnaar wilde echter van geen opgeven weten en knokte zich, na meerdere operaties aan zijn rechterarm, terug in de autosport. Via het rallykampioenschap WRC belandde Kubica half 2017 weer achter het stuur van een Formule 1-auto van Renault. In 2018 was de voormalig Renault-coureur testrijder bij Williams en komend seizoen volgt dus de terugkeer als vaste coureur.

Alonso stopte echter eind 2018 in de Formule 1. Kubica vindt het jammer dat hij het niet meer kan opnemen tegen de tweevoudig wereldkampioen. "Het is altijd mooi om respect te krijgen en voor hem heb ik ook veel respect. We kennen elkaar al heel lang en in het verleden hebben we ook tegen elkaar geracet. Het is jammer dat Fernando de sport verlaat, want op én naast het circuit konden we het goed vinden met elkaar. Maar zo is het leven. Het is een eer dat ik weer in de Formule 1 mag racen en ik ga mijn best doen", vertelt hij aan RaceFans.

Voor alle Alonso haters: weer een collega van de 2-voudige wereldkampioen die nog maar eens benadrukt hoe geweldig Alonso op en naast het circuit was/is.
