Sainz juicht het toe wanneer Alonso de MCL34 gaat testen

Carlos Sainz zou er blij mee zijn wanneer zijn mentor en landgenoot Fernando Alonso de 2019-auto van McLaren gaat testen. McLaren-teambaas Zak Brown meldde eerder al dat dat inderdaad de bedoeling is van het Britse team.

"Ik zou het niet erg vinden wanneer de coureur die de auto het beste kent van de recente jaren, de auto gaat testen. Dat zou positief zijn voor het team en dat is waarom het in overweging wordt genomen", aldus Sainz, die denkt dat McLaren dacht dat het vorig jaar beter zou gaan.

"Mogelijk dachten ze dat ze meer potentieel hadden. Ze hadden niet verwacht dat de auto zo zou presteren en gedurende het seizoen reageerde de auto ook niet goed op updates. Daarom waren ze er daarna op gefocust om te analyseren wat er gebeurde, maar niet omdat het team de auto niet meer wilde ontwikkelen."

"Ik hoop op een verbetering van de motor, zodat we niet zoveel lijden op de rechte stukken. De banden gaan hetzelfde blijven, maar ik denk dat de reglementen ons zullen helpen. We moeten vertrouwen hebben in Liberty. Ze hebben gestreden voor verandering en dat zullen ze blijven doen tot 2021", aldus Sainz tegenover de Spaanse pers.

      @MV: heeft helemaal niets met fan-zijn te maken, gewoon weloverwogen nuchter oordeel.
      Sainz wil de auto door een ander laten afstellen, dat getuigt van weinig zelfvertrouwen of een tactisch spelletje.
      Het fine tunen (om zelf maximaal te kunne presteren) tijdens de wintertests hoort net zo goed tot de taak van een coureur als het racen zelf. En wat doet de ervaring van Alonso er nu helemaal toe, nu sprake is van grote chassis-veranderingen in 2019?

      Wat gaat hij zeggen in de loop van het seizoen als hij wellicht achteraan meehobbelt: 'dat heeft Alono gedaan"?
      Ik herinner mij dat MV33 zelfs tijdens het seizoen dat hij bij RB instapte zo vlug mogelijk zijn eigen afstelling zocht; dat doen flinke jongens!

      Een of twee testdagen voor Alonso om zijn bevindingen te delen en punten aan te geven waar de auto ten opzichte van het vorige jaar beter of slechter is, is een teken van weinig zelfvertrouwen? Tevens is dat niet "iets door een ander laten afstellen" zoals jij het noemt, het is waardevolle feedback. Sainz en Norris hebben alle overige dagen om hun auto af te stellen en om alles te kunnen finetunen zoals zij het graag willen. Het kan alleen maar goed uit pakken wanneer een ervaren rot een helpende hand kan lenen.

      @Buurman: volgens Brown (lees bericht gisteren) is zijn dilemma dat er genoeg tijd moet overblijven voor het testwerk van de vaste coureurs. Dat duidt dus niet op een kortstondig optreden en beperkte rol van Alonso. Bovendien verloopt testen altijd gaandeweg, in een wisselwerking tussen coureur en technici, dus bij één optreden blijft het niet.

      Maar natuurlijk kan het geen kwaad feedback van hem te vergaren; echter de afgelopen jaren kende McLaren dramatische testweken waarin ze sommige dagen amper aan rijden toekwamen. Dat kwam omdat ze intern de boel niet op orde hadden, zeker dit jaar. Als dat weer zo verloopt, dan is het maar de vraag of de rol van Alonso niet eerder een last is.

      En wie zegt dat Alonso en Sainz dezelfde kant uit willen ontwikkelen?

      Wanneer Alonso de auto gaat testen neemt hij echt niet alle dagen voor zijn rekening, misschien twee dagen. Dat moet genoeg zijn om voor Sainz de afstelling rond te krijgen en voor Fernando om de basis van de auto te doorgronden

    Het is wat mij betreft de bevestiging dat Sainz (of Norris) het stoeltje van Alonso aan het warmhouden is.

    Kan Sainz misschien wel zeggen maar ik heb daar helemaal geen vertrouwen in. Alonso is niet in staat geweest om die McL in de laatste vier jaar ook maar enigzins te verbeteren. Eerder de andere kant op. Al het testwerk voor aero updates en diagnose waar het fout ging is door Vandoorne gedaan. En dan zou Alonso nu ineens het orakel moeten zijn? Blijf lekker dromen.
