Mercedes heeft Mattia Binotto geen aanbieding gedaan

Mercedes-teambaas Toto Wolff heeft ontkend dat zijn team Mattia Binotto, de technisch directeur van Ferrari, een aanbod heeft gedaan. Afgelopen maand ging het gerucht in de Italiaanse media dat het nog steeds niet botert tussen Binotto en Ferrari-teambaas Maurizio Arrivabene en eerstgenoemde zou aanbiedingen hebben ontvangen van verschillende teams, waaronder Mercedes.

"Nee, we hebben Binotto geen contract aangeboden", zegt de teambaas van Mercedes tegenover La Gazzetta dello Sport. "Ik kan zeggen dat hij een geweldige engineer is, maar onder het leiderschap van James Allison hebben we een hoogwaardig technisch team en daarom bekijken we niemand anders."

Het engineering-team van Mercedes werd geleid door hoofdontwerper John Owen, nadat engineering-directeur Aldo Costa afgelopen zomer een adviserende rol op zich heeft genomen. "Aldo is niet alleen een collega, maar ook een vriend. Hij gaat Mercedes niet verlaten", aldus Wolff.

"Ons team heeft een dynamische structuur. We moeten ontwikkelen en jonge mensen van mogelijkheden en verantwoordelijkheden voorzien. Waar ik van houd, is dat niemand ons team ontevreden verlaat. Dat kan ik je verzekeren."
