Alonso benieuwd naar verrichtingen Leclerc en Kubica in 2019

Fernando Alonso lijkt aan een tweede racejeugd bezig. De tweevoudig Formule 1-kampioen heeft het geweldig naar zijn zin in de autosport, waarin hij de afgelopen jaren meerdere series geprobeerd heeft.

Op 37-jarige leeftijd is Alonso een van de meest veelzijdige coureurs op de wereld. De Spanjaard reed tot het eind van 2018 Formule 1, maar sinds 2017 nam hij daarnaast deel aan een redelijk aantal races in andere bolides. Dat begon met de Indy 500 in 2017, om zich in 2018 te storten op de 24 uur van Daytona en een campagne in het WEC. Daarmee gaat hij in 2019 verder, terwijl hij ook voor de tweede keer naar de Indy 500 afreist.

Tegenover AS vertelde Alonso ook dat hij nog niet toe is aan stoppen met racen. "Schumacher reed tot hij 43 was. Als je je sterk voelt, merk je niet dat je richting een houdbaarheidsdatum gaat. Je blijft doorgaan, totdat je je realiseert dat anderen sterker zijn. Dat kan gebeuren als je 25 bent, maar ook pas op je 48e." Een terugkeer in de Formule 1 wil Alonso niet uitsluiten. "Ik heb altijd 'tot later, Formule 1' gezegd en ik heb nog geen plannen voor 2020."

Alonso is dan ook niet van plan om de Formule 1 niet te volgen. Hij is vooral benieuwd naar de verrichtingen van Robert Kubica en Charles Leclerc in 2019. "Ik ga het volgen voor Kubica; zijn verhaal is uitzonderlijk. Ik ben ook nieuwsgierig om te zien of de reeks van Mercedes eindigt. Ik denk dat dat moment nabij is. Je hebt natuurlijk ook Leclerc bij Ferrari. Hij is jong, getalenteerd en intelligent. Hij moet wel leren de punten binnen te halen, het team te helpen en zich bewust zijn dat het WK tussen juli en september beslist wordt. Hij moet niet gehaast worden, maar zijn emoties onder controle houden."

  Dat ie over kubica praat en benieuwd over hem is is best logisch, beiden zijn goede vrienden van elkaar, en over Leclerc, ook wel, die gaat voor ferrari rijden, een team dat alonso Door en door kent

  Waarom zou hij een woord over Max hebben? .. die snap ik niet... Kubica is een 'nieuwkomer' en Leclerc gaat als 'Rookie' naar een topteam.. dus wat heeft Max ermee te maken.
