Racing Point zet naamswijziging kracht bij door nieuwe gebruikersnaam op Twitter

Gisteren werd al duidelijk dat Force India haar naam officieel verandert naar Racing Point. Vandaag zet het team die wijziging kracht bij door de naam van het Twitter-account te veranderen naar @RacingPointF1.

Al in december hintte de inschrijflijst van de FIA erop dat Racing Point de nieuwe naam zou worden van het Canadese team van zakenman Lawrence Stroll. Teambaas Otmar Szafnauer gaf destijds al aan dat Racing Point mogelijk niet de definitieve naam zou worden en men probeerde om Lola, een historische naam in de Formule 1, aan de naam van de renstal te koppelen.

Die poging bleek niet succesvol, waardoor het team zich erbij neer heeft gelegd dat Racing Point de officiële naam van het team wordt. Op Twitter heeft de equipe haar naam inmiddels gewijzigd van @FIF1Team naar @RacingPointF1. Op Facebook en Instagram moeten de wijzigingen nog doorgevoerd worden. Het teampagina op Facebook heet nog steeds Racing Point Force India Formula One Team, terwijl @forceindiaf1 nog steeds gebruikt wordt op Instagram. Op LinkedIn heeft men de naamswijziging inmiddels wel gedaan.

Wat de nieuwe teamkleuren van Racing Point zullen zijn, is nog niet duidelijk. Het icoontje op Twitter is veranderd in een zandloper, waardoor pas op 13 februari duidelijk zal worden welke kleur de nieuwe auto heeft. Op die datum presenteert Racing Point haar nieuwe bolide tijdens de autobeurs van Toronto.

Waarom hebben ze bij Racing Point geen prijsvraag de deur uitgedaan om de fans een naam te laten verzinnen? De winnaar krijgt een meet & greet met Lance incl. dineetje bij kaarslicht, en de verzinsels zullen binnen hebben gestroomd. Beetje jammer dit.

  Racingpoint... de naam zou zelfs verboden moeten zijn om te mogen gebruiken. Lola of Brabham (andere geruchten) had van mij ook niet gehoeven... Bedenk gewoon zelf een stijlvolle naam.
