Brawn kijkt met veel plezier terug op succesvolle periode bij Ferrari

Ross Brawn is tegenwoordig het technische hoofd van de Formule 1, maar in het verleden was hij onder andere succesvol als technisch directeur van Ferrari. Aan zijn tijd bij het Italiaanse team bewaard hij mooie herinneringen.

Tussen 1997 en 2006 werkte Brawn bij Ferrari en met hem als technisch directeur behaalde het team grote successen. Onder zijn leiding werd het team tussen 1999 en 2004 zes keer op rij kampioen bij de constructeurs en won Michael Schumacher tussen 2000 en 2004 vijf wereldtitels. Bij de opening van de expositie Ferrari in Art van de Royal Automobile Club in Londen sprak Brawn over de passie die hij voelde bij de fans van Ferrari.

"Ik was gelukkig genoeg dat ik in Monza op het podium mocht staan toen Ferrari won en er is geen mooiere ervaring dan dat. Daar zie je het enorme publiek en de passie en emoties van de fans. Als ik over het vliegveld van Bologna liep, dan werd ik aangevallen of geprezen. Dat gebeurt nergens anders, maar dat is onderdeel van de passie van Ferrari."

Brawn nam na zijn periode bij Ferrari een jaar vrijaf. Volgens de Brit was dat nodig, omdat hij niet direct de overstap naar een ander team kon maken. "Ik ging er een jaar tussenuit. Ik had het lastig gevonden om van Ferrari direct naar een ander team te gaan. Ik heb daar tien jaar gezeten. Dat was een mooi rond getal en het voelde goed om op dat moment te stoppen. Ik wilde voorkomen dat ik zou vervagen of dat ik zou vertrekken onder lastige omstandigheden. Voor mij was het dus perfect."
