Haas F1 ruilt simulator Ferrari vanaf 2019 in voor exemplaar Dallara

Rich Energy Haas zal vanaf het nieuwe seizoen gebruik maken van de simulator van Dallara. Tot kort geleden gebruikte het team de simulator van Ferrari, maar tijdens de Grand Prix-weekenden was dat onmogelijk. Haas wil daar echter ook een mogelijkheid voor hebben.

Formule 1-teams maken gebruik van de simulator om een basisafstelling voor de volgende race te kunnen bepalen. Tijdens het weekend kan die afstelling ook in de simulator nog wat verbeterd worden. Haas kon dat tot en met het afgelopen seizoen echter niet, omdat Ferrari tijdens de raceweekenden zelf de simulator gebruikte. Voor Günther Steiner, de teambaas van Haas, was het daarom een makkelijke keuze om te wisselen naar de simulator van Dallara.

"We hebben toegang tot de simulator van Ferrari, maar zij gebruiken hem tijdens de Grand Prix-weekends", vertelde Steiner aan de Deense krant BT. "Wij willen ook een simulator kunnen gebruiken tijdens deze weekends, dus wij wisselen naar de simulator van Dallara."

Volgens Steiner kost het tijd om het simulatorprogramma te maken, dus hij verwacht pas in mei gebruik te kunnen maken van het apparaat van Dallara. "Het kost tijd om een simulatorprogramma te bouwen, maar we verwachten het af te ronden in de lente. Vanaf race 5 of 6 verwacht ik er tijdens de raceweekenden gebruik van te kunnen maken."

Sinds eind 2018 is Pietro Fittipaldi aan Haas verbonden als test- en simulatorcoureur. Steiner wil graag dat de data van de simulator goed overeenkomen met hoe de auto zich op het circuit gedraagt, dus de Braziliaan mag tijdens de wintertests ook kort plaatsnemen in de Haas VF-19. "Om te garanderen dat de simulator overeenkomt met wat er op het circuit gebeurt, zal Pietro een halve dag rijden tijdens de eerste wintertest."

Ik lees nergens dat ze nu geen gebruik kunnen maken van de Ferrari simulator.
Alleen in de race weekenden niet.
Zodra de simulator van Dallara gereed is voor gebruik, pas dan zullen ze hem gaan inzetten tijdens de race weekenden.

  Zeker. Ze hebben dus al die tijd tijdens de race weekenden de wagen niet kunnen verbeteren via simulator werk. Elk team doet dat.
  Als ik het goed begrijp hebben ze momenteel dus helemaal geen simulator, dus kunnen ze ook vóór het raceweekend de set up nog niet bepalen. Dat lijkt me flink balen, nu moet alles op het circuit gebeuren. Hopelijk mogen ze nog een paar weken de simulator van Ferrari daarvoor gebruiken, maar ik betwijfel dat als ik het artikel zo lees.

  Dallara heeft vrijwel dezelfde simulator, zo'n spinnenpoot geval, als Ferrari, op een paar kilometer afstand van Maranello (Varano), de overgang zal dus niet groot zijn.
  Uiteraard deelt Ferrari niet de sim software, maar Haas heeft ten alle tijden toegang tot de Ferrari simulator.
  Ferrari en Dallara bijten elkaar ook niet, in het verleden ontwikkelde Dallara Gt's voor Ferrari die in het toenmalige WEC werden ingezet.
