Susie Wolff heeft ondanks moeilijke start geen twijfels over Felipe Massa

Venturi-teambaas Susie Wolff heeft verklaard dat je Felipe Massa nooit mag onderschatten. Ondanks een matige start van de Braziliaanse ex Formule 1-coureur is Wolff van mening dat het goed zal komen met haar pupil.

Massa is een van de vijf coureurs die dit seizoen nog geen punt gescoord heeft in de Formule E. De Braziliaan maakte een opmerkelijke start van het seizoen mee door twee penalty's te ontvangen in zijn eerste race. Op het circuit van Ad-Diriyag eindigde hij als zeventiende. De daaropvolgende race in Marrakech ging het niet veel beter, Massa werd achttiende.

Susie Wolff zegt dat ze geen twijfel heeft dat Massa zich zal verbeteren: "Je moet Felipe Massa nooit onderschatten. Hij is een man die weet wat er voor nodig is om succesvol te zijn in een kampioenschap. Hij heeft de uitdaging in de Formule E zeker niet onderschat. Het is een evenement waarbij er geen ruimte is voor fouten."

"Je begint in de ochtend en voor je het weet is je race voorbij en heb je geen tijd gehad om alles wat er tussendoor plaatsvind te bespreken. Dit andere platform is zeker een uitdaging voor hem en alle andere debutanten in deze serie. Het zal hen misschien net iets langer duren om op snelheid te komen," vertelde Wolff. Dit klopt niet helemaal overigens. Pascal Wehrlein, ook debutant in deze klasse, reed de afgelopen race in Chili naar het podium.

Wolff voegde er aan toe: "Ik twijfel er absoluut niet aan dat Felipe zijn weg naar boven zal vinden." Massa was het daar mee eens: "Ik heb nog geen punten, maar dat is niet alleen mijn schuld. De eerste twee races had ik veel problemen op het technische vlak. We konden geen punten scoren met beide auto's. De laatste race ging het beter. De Venturi-aandrijving had liefst drie coureurs die zich in de top tien konden kwalificeren. Ik heb vertrouwen in het vervolg van het seizoen." Venturi is eveneens leverancier van het Formule E-team van HWA Racelab. Voor dit team komen Gary Paffett en Stoffel Vandoorne uit.

Tja, ze reeds zelf beroerd in de DTM en reeds ook iedereen in de weg en vond zichzelf een goed coureur, dan is het voor mij niet raar dat ze dit nu ook niet ziet bij Massa. Sorry hoor, maar als ik Massa was had ik snel afscheid genomen. Het is gewoon een trieste vertoning en hij moeet gewoon vervangen worden in mijn ogen.
