Brendon Hartley voor Action Express tijdens 12 uur van Sebring

Goed nieuws voor Brendon Hartley. De oud Toro Rosso-coureur zal op 16 maart voor Action Express deelnemen aan de 12 uur van Sebring. Hartley wordt bij de #5 Musting Sampling Cadillac DPi de teamgenoot van Felipe Albuquerque en Joao Barbosa. Harltey is toegevoegd aan het team aangezien Christian Fittipaldi op Daytona zijn laatste wedstrijd reed.

Het is de tweede keer dat Hartley actied zal zijn tijdens de 12 uur van Sebring. In 2018 maakt hij voor het ESM-team zijn debuut in een Nissan Onroak DPi. Mike Conway, die op korte termijn de line-up van Action Express niet kon versterken door een visumprobleem, was niet beschikbaar aangezien Toyota haar coureurs verboden heeft om mee te racen in het IMSA-evenement in Sebring. Dit besluit zorgde er ook voor dat Fernando Alonso niet in kon stappen bij Wayne Taylor Racing voor de 12 uur van Sebring.

Gary Nelson van Action Express vertelde: "Christian besloot te stoppen, wij zochten een goede vervanger voor hem die snel is. Brendon heeft een geweldige achtergrond en een houding die uitstekend bij het team past. We hebben Brendon door de jaren heel gevolgd sinds we hem voor het eerst zagen racen. Wij zijn erg blij dat het gelukt is om hem naar ons team te halen."

Hartley zal op Sebring een 'Double Duty' rijden. Hij is bij SMP Racing ingepland om de 1000-mijl van Sebring te rijden. Deze race zal op de vrijdag voor de 12 uur van Sebring van start gaan.

Als vervanger van de afwezige Jenson Button zal Hartley ook met SMP deelnemen aan de race op Spa. Deze zal in mei verreden worden. Daarnaast zal hij met RLR MSport in de 24 uur van Le Mans actief zijn in de LMP2-klasse.

Het wordt een druk jaar voor Hartley, die naast zijn WEC en IMSA avonturen ook nog als simulator coureur bij Ferrari aan de slag is. Hartley is eveneens onderdeel van het nieuwe Formule E-project van Porsche.
