Brawn: "Toekomst Britse GP op Silverstone nog steeds in twijfel"

Het contract van Silverstone en Liberty voor de organisatie van de Britse Grand Prix loopt na de komende editie af. Volgens Ross Brawn zitten de Formule 1 en het circuit wel om de tafel voor een nieuw contract, maar een oplossing is nog niet nabij.

Na het seizoen 2019 lopen de contracten van maar liefst vijf grands prix af. Naast Silverstone moeten ook Mexico, Monza, Barcelona en Hockenheim met Liberty om tafel om een nieuw contract voor de organisatie van de races te bewerkstelligen. Met Silverstone lijken die onderhandelingen dus verre van soepel te verlopen. Het circuit wil graag dat de jaarlijkse fee lager wordt, maar Liberty lijkt daar vooralsnog niet al te veel in mee te willen gaan.

"We willen een oplossing vinden", zegt Brawn over de situatie met Silverstone. "We hebben echter verschillende beelden van wat redelijk is. We liggen niet ver uit elkaar, maar het is frustrerend dat we geen oplossing kunnen vinden." De toekomst van de Grand Prix van Groot-Brittannië is dus in gevaar, maar volgens Brawn zal de race behouden blijven. "Ik denk niet dat het de laatste Britse Grand Prix wordt, ongeacht dat op Silverstone of een ander circuit is."

Liberty heeft de wens om de kalender verder uit te breiden met nieuwe races in Vietnam en Miami en een Nederlandse Grand Prix. Tegelijkertijd dreigen vijf races van de kalender te verdwijnen, iets wat Brawn absoluut niet wil. "We kunnen ze niet zonder slag of stoot verliezen. We proberen oplossingen te vinden en ik denk dat het gaat lukken, maar de omstandigheden veranderen en soms kan je daar niet voldoende op inspringen. We gaan het proberen, maar we moeten ook eerlijk zijn ten opzichte van de andere circuits."

het zou een regelrechte schande zijn als de F1 vertrekt uit Engeland! met name uit silverstone! een straten circuit in London lijkt mij helemaal uit den boze !

zijn de Fee's voor ieder circuit gelijk ? zo nee, hebben alle circuits inzage in de Fee's die een ieder betaald?

Gaan we straks alleen nog maar races zien onder de praraplu van rijke olie magnaten in het midden oosten ?

Geld is belangrijk maar F1 kan niet zonder history.
Liberty zal toch echt moeten schikken met deze organisaties voordat elke historish circuit straks buiten de boot valt.

Engeland is zo'n beetje de bakermat van de F1, veruit de meeste teams zitten er nog steeds.. Het zou perfect weergeven hoe ziek het financiële gedeelte van de sport is als we straks dus misschien geen GP van Groot-Brittannië meer zouden hebben puur vanwege het geld..

  Dit is een vicieuze cirkel. LM moet geld hebben van de circuits om de schoftelijk hoge bedragen te betalen aan de 10 teams vanwege prijzengeld, historisch merk of wat voor een bullsh*t redenen dan ook. Prijzengeld + algemene kosten van het runnen van een dergelijke organisatie is niet op te brengen zonder de hoofdprijs te vragen van de circuits. Uiteindelijk is de fan de l*l want jij betaald straks EUR 400,- voor een sta plaats langs het circuit tijdens een vrijdag training.
