Raikkonen 'raakt niet echt opgewonden' na zesde plaatsen in vrije trainingen

Als vanouds stond Kimi Raikkonen tijdens beide vrije trainingen op de vrijdag in de top 6. In tegenstelling tot de afgelopen seizoenen deed de wereldkampioen van 2007 dat in Australië knap met een Alfa Romeo, maar het doet hem zelf nog niet zo veel.

Het eerste weekend in de Alfa Romeo ging dus op een plezierige manier van start voor Raikkonen met twee keer een zesde positie op de vrijdag. Op Albert Park in Melbourne bewees de Fin nog steeds snel te zijn. Tevens was hij ruimschoots sneller dan teamgenoot Antonio Giovinazzi, die niet verder kwam dan de elfde en de vijftiende posities in de vrije trainingen.

De tijden die Raikkonen reed lijken hoopgevend, maar zelf is The Iceman nog niet echt onder de indruk. Dat vertelde hij na afloop van de tweede vrije training. “Ik raak er nog niet echt opgewonden van. Ik denk dat jullie dat in het algemeen sneller worden. We zullen morgen in de kwalificatie zien waar we staan. We zullen proberen om ons hier en daar te verbeteren.”

Raikkonen weet ook waar die verbeteringen te halen zijn, maar hij betwijfelt of alles dit weekend opgelost kan worden. “Het zit vooral in de afstelling. We hebben nog flink wat dingen te verbeteren. Ik weet niet of dat hier in Melbourne allemaal gaat lukken, maar we moeten proberen om de verbeteringen te zoeken. Voor mij was dit een normale vrijdag.”

"Natuurlijk hebben we nog werk te doen. In het gedrag van de auto hebben we nog het een en ander te verbeteren en dat geldt ook voor de afstelling. Hopelijk kunnen we deze dingen oplossen. Dat zou het wat makkelijker maken. Wat betreft de rondetijden is het lastig te zeggen. Morgen zullen we het in de kwalificatie zien. Het ziet er absoluut niet slecht uit", sloot de Fin af.

Het lijkt zo kort op elkaar te zitten in het midden dat 1 klein foutje je zo 5 a 6 plaatsen kan kosten.

Met een beetje geluk Kimii heb je de wind achter je dat scheelt je minsten van seconden bij het afstellen van je bolide en met het huidige gewicht van je lichaam en je lengte Zoom je zo…… over het circuit dat scheelt voor een poging om zondag als derde te laten waar je voor rijd, elke seconde telt mee voor de kwaliteit.
