Leclerc: "Geen frustratie na order om Vettel niet in te halen in Melbourne"

Charles Leclerc mocht van Ferrari in Australië geen inhaalpoging wagen bij teamgenoot Sebastian Vettel. Tijdens de persconferentie in Bahrein vertelde de Monegask dat hij wel begrip op kan brengen voor dat besluit.

In de slotfase van de Australische Grand Prix viel Vettel steeds verder terug en op een gegeven moment zat Leclerc in de ideale positie om aan hem voorbij te gaan. De Monegask vroeg of hij dat kon doen, maar het team gaf hem te kennen dat dit geen optie was. Terugkijkend begrijpt Leclerc goed waarom: Ferrari wilde niet nog meer punten verliezen en voor het kampioenschap maakte het niet uit in welke volgorde haar coureurs over de finish zouden komen.

"Van mijn kant was er geen frustratie. Natuurlijk is het de eerste race, maar vanuit het team bekeken was er niets te winnen. Het maakt namelijk niet uit of Sebastian vierde wordt en ik vijfde, of dat het andersom is. Het levert exact dezelfde hoeveelheid punten op voor het team, dus het is begrijpelijk dat ze niet wilden dat we dat gingen riskeren en meer punten zouden verliezen door met elkaar te knokken. Het is zoals het is en ik begrijp dat besluit."

Geen fundamenteel probleem bij Ferrari

Ondanks het tegenvallende resultaat in Melbourne stelt Leclerc dat de sfeer binnen Ferrari nog altijd prima is. Ook is er volgens hem geen fundamenteel probleem met de SF90. "Ik denk dat onze mentaliteit goed en positief is en die moeten we het hele jaar vast zien te houden. Natuurlijk weten we dat er veel werk te doen is, maar ik heb er vertrouwen in dat ze binnen het team er alles aan zullen doen om de auto te verbeteren."

"Ik denk niet dat er een fundamenteel probleem is. Het gaat om het finetunen. Ik verwacht niet we in Melbourne onze echte snelheid hebben laten zien en we hebben er allemaal vertrouwen in dat we het hier in Bahrein al beter kunnen doen. Zoals ik al zei is de mentaliteit in het team goed en dat moeten we vasthouden. We werken allemaal samen als een team en het is goed om dat te zien."

Hij was niet snller, het hele weekend niet. Enkel door probleem bij Vettel en vroege stop kon hij erbij komen. Goede keus dus van Ferrari dus om hem erachter te laten.

Zegt veel....een winnaar baalt altijd van een dergerlijke order...
hij had gewoon lak moeten hebben aan die order en meteen laten zien wie hij was en waar hij voor stond.....nu heeft hij zich laten kennen en kan hij fungeren als de b*tch van Vettel

  Nu is Leclerc nog loyaal, maar als hij vaker sneller is dan zal hij toch ook voor eigen gewin gaan.... Althans dat hoop ik wel....

  Bij Ferrari negeer je geen teamorders. Ferrari komt eerst en dan pas de rijders. Leclerc heeft zijn verstand gebruikt, heeft laten zien dat ie het kon maar wel naar het team geluisterd. Zo bouwt hij eerst aan een goede band met het team. Als hij vaker sneller blijkt dan Vettel heeft ie dan het krediet om wel te mogen.

  Leclerc hoeft dat helemaal niet te doen. Als hij zich steeds aan de staart van de wagen van Vettel meldt zegt dat voldoende. Bij Ferrari is t snel klaar met je als je bijdehand gaat doen.

Nee, natuurlijk niet, maar als je de komende twee keer ook sneller bent dat je maat Vettel, kijkt LeClerc er toch echt anders tegenaan. wat een nieuws.......
En dat met mijn drie jaar lagere school en een zwemdiploma....
