Ricciardo: "Renault probeert te hard tijdens Grand Prix-weekends"

Van frustratie is na een slecht begin van zijn carrière bij Renault geen sprake, maar Daniel Ricciardo heeft wel een pijnpunt opgemerkt. Volgens de Australiër proberen hij en het team te hard om de zaken voor elkaar te krijgen.

Na twee races staat de teller van Ricciardo bij Renault op nul punten, maar wel viel hij in beide races uit. In Bahrein lag hij op koers om een puntje te scoren, toen de MGU-K in zijn bolide de geest gaf. In Australië reed hij na honderden meters zijn voorvleugel al kapot, om later in de race op te geven. Momenteel zit Ricciardo nog in de fase dat hij moet wennen aan zijn nieuwe team, maar hij denkt dat het team minder hard moet proberen om resultaten te boeken.

Renault moet meer basale aanpak hanteren

"Wat ik heb opgemerkt, is dat we misschien te veel proberen te doen tijdens een weekend", vertelde hij in Bahrein aan GPToday.net. "We hadden de kans om te analyseren op de maandag na Bahrein. De stelden vast dat we momenteel misschien te veel proberen te doen. Ik probeer me te settelen en de engineers proberen met mij te werken. Misschien proberen we allemaal echter te slim te zijn."

"Je probeert altijd de limiet te vinden, maar voor nu moeten we een meer basale aanpak aanhouden en dingen goed doen. Misschien moeten we nu niet zoeken naar die ene extra procent. We kunnen waarschijnlijk meer tijd halen uit op ons gemak zijn en goed samenwerken. Ik weet dat het tot uiting komt als ik me echt op mijn gemak voel in de auto en dat straalt af op de engineers, waardoor zij weer meer vertrouwen krijgen."

Ricciardo verwacht snel verbetering

Ondanks dat de start van het seizoen niet verloopt zoals hij wil, heeft dat nog niet tot frustraties geleid bij Ricciardo. De van Red Bull Racing-overgekomen coureur zegt dat het gevoel bij het team goed is en voorziet dan ook dat er al op afzienbare tijd verbeteringen zichtbaar zullen zijn.

"Ik voel me al redelijk goed met dit team rond mij. We hebben net nog een uur gesproken over dingen uit Bahrein en dit weekend. Het gevoel is goed, dus ik weet dat het eraan komt. Daarom ben ik nog niet gefrustreerd, omdat ik weet dat het goed gaat komen. Ik wil zo snel mogelijk op dat moment komen, maar we strijden nog niet om een kampioenschap. Er is dus tijd voor ons om deze fouten te maken en beter te worden."

  Ik snap wat hij zegt, anderzijds: als je de ambitie laat varen om het uiterste uit het pakket te persen, wat doe je dan in de F1? Te hard iets proberen, daar geloof ik niet in. Je probeert van alles in de vrije trainingen, en kiest dan de beste setting voor de kwalificatie. En die beste setting, daar wil je toch alles voor geven om die te vinden?
  En dan tijdens de race rijden voor wat je waard bent, niks comfortabel doen. Anderhalf uur tot het gaatje gaan, want anderen doen dat ook. Kom op zeg...

  Die " gunfactor" is bij mij verdwenen toen hij het niet dierft op te nemen tegen Max. Max is degene die ervoor gezorgd heeft dat DR is gaan pleite, Max is te snel....

  Ik zie de komende jaren Renault echt niet de snelste auto hebben, ze vinden het prima hoe het gaat, ze zijn ook niet echt van plan om veel meer geld erin te steken, ik verwacht niet veel beter dan nu met ze.

  Met de snelheid van het rap toenemende banksaldo zit het wel snor, maar voor de rest voelt hij zich volgens mij helemaal niet op z'n gemak bij Renault en die gezellige nieuwe teambaas van hem.
