Sergio Perez super tevreden met achtste plek: "Totaal niet verwacht"

SportPesa Racing Point-coureur Sergio Perez behaalde een knappe achtste positie tijdens de Grand Prix van China. Perez had een fenomenale eerste ronde en maakte meteen een heleboel plaatsen goed. De Mexicaan reed gedurende de hele race achter Daniel Ricciardo en kreeg aan het einde van de race nog last van Kimi Raikkonen. Perez was gelukkig met de vier punten die hij heeft kunnen binnenhalen voor het nieuwe team.

In gesprek met GPToday.net verklaarde hij het volgende: "Ik ben blij met het resultaat. Ik had totaal niet verwacht dat wij vandaag voor de punten konden rijden", verklaarde de Mexicaan. "Dit is precies wat wij moeten doen", ging hij verder. "Als de auto nog niet helemaal optimaal is moeten wij proberen om zo veel mogelijk punten te scoren."

"Ik had een geweldige race-auto vandaag want mijn snelheid was heel erg goed. Ik kreeg het voor elkaar om de banden en de auto op een ideale manier te laten werken. Wij kunnen daar super trots op zijn", vertelde Perez.

"Het was van groot belang dat ik vandaag goed met mijn banden om zou springen. We hadden vooraf al besloten om voor een één-stop strategie te gaan. Ik kreeg het voor elkaar om mijn eerste stint te verlengen en was tijdens mijn tweede stint continu bezig om mijn banden te managen. Het was echt een perfecte race voor ons", legde hij uit.

Toch geeft de Mexicaan aan dat er nog genoeg werk te doen is: "Wij moeten echt nog heel veel stappen zetten. Gelukkig krijgen we de komende races wat nieuwe onderdelen en hoop ik dat we wat stappen in het middenveld kunnen maken. Het zit allemaal heel erg dicht bij elkaar en daarom vecht iedereen voor elk punt."

"Ik kijk wel heel erg uit naar de volgende races, zeker naar Baku. Ik denk dat we in Baku sneller kunnen zijn en ik heb daar altijd mooie resultaten kunnen halen", sloot hij af.

Ben benieuwd wanneer papa Stroll en consorten gaan investeren in het team, want tot nu toe is er een neerwaartse spiraal ingezet.....

Dus als Hulkenberg, Button of Kobayashi in die auto van Lance hadden gezeten dan waren ze stijf achteraan geëindigd.
Laat die Lance maar gaan, die eindigt straks dik voor Sergio en kan in 2020 naar Mercedes.

  Ik weet het niet hoor Rimmer, dat Stroll redelijke goede races rijdt doet niets af aan zijn abominabel slechte kwalificaties.
  
  Bedenk je wel dat er achteraan op de gird altijd een hoop meer plekken te winnen zijn op slechtere wagens dan wanneer je start tussen concurrerende wagens zoals Pérez nu deed.
  
  3 x achter elkaar niet door Q1 komen met bij deze GP zelfs uitvallers en dan nog de langzamere Williams auto’s is echt heel slecht.
  
  Perez is echt een maatje te groot op dit moment voor Stroll. Ik zie het er zo maar van komen dat Pérez op 1 of 2 keer na alle kwalificaties gaat winnen van Stroll dit seizoen en met het concurrerende middenveld van dit jaar start Ocon dan dus heel erg vaak in de achterhoede.
