Vrijdag Ricciardo eindigt vroegtijdig na 'aanhoudende' problemen met flat-spots

Daniel Ricciardo is niet blij met zijn vrijdag in Azerbeidzjan. De Renault-coureur had last van terugkerende vlakke kanten op zijn banden en dat zorgde ervoor dat hij de tweede vrije training vroegtijdig moest beëindigen.

Dat tijdsverlies kon Ricciardo niet goed gebruiken, nadat de eerste vrije training al na een kwartier afgelast werd. George Russell reed toen over een losliggende putdeksel heen. De tweede training was het moment voor de coureurs om te wennen aan de baan en zich voor te bereiden op de kwalificatie en de race, maar daar kwam Ricciardo maar mondjesmaat aan toe: hij beschadigde beide sets banden door er vlakke kanten op te remmen.

"Ik miste het laatste half uur, misschien nog wat meer. Dat is hier normaal gesproken omdat je gecrasht bent. Voor mij waren het echter flat-spots op de banden. Op beide sets hadden we vlakke kanten. Dat gebeurde vrijwel direct en daarna was het gedaan met de band. We hadden helaas geen banden om lange runs mee te doen en ik denk niet dat ik eerder in deze positie gezeten heb. Dat is niet leuk, wel frustrerend, maar ik zal een aantal dingen aanstrepen waar we zaterdag aan kunnen werken."

Ricciardo gelooft in betere zaterdag

Veel zorgen maakt Ricciardo zich nog niet voor de rest van het weekend in Azerbeidzjan, maar hij weet dat het laatste uurtje vrije training op zaterdag cruciaal zal zijn voor hem en Renault. "Ik zou niet zeggen dat ik vrees voor de rest van het weekend, maar we moeten erg efficiënt zijn en er bovenop zitten in dat ene uurtje in de ochtend."

"We gaan het oplossen. Vandaag was een uitdaging voor ons, maar ik ben ervan overtuigd dat we vanavond oplossingen vinden en de banden werkend krijgen. Ik denk dat de grip zal komen als we de banden aan het werk krijgen, zeker op asfalt met weinig grip. Ik weet zeker dat we beiden een lach op ons gezicht krijgen. Ik ben optimistisch dat we het zaterdag op de rit kunnen krijgen."

Eerste vrije training geen banden gebruikt en dan toch geen extra set voor vt2? Beetje vreemd.

  Wellicht had het geen zin om door te rijden en was het ook een issue met de remmen. Hier heeft Ricciardo al meer mee zitten stoeien in vorige races.

Vermoed het laatste of voorlaatste seizoen van Ricciardo, laat totaal niets meer zien van zijn begin jaren.
Deed al erg veel onder voor Max en zelfs tegen Hulkenberg kan hij het niet altijd halen, en dat terwijl Hulkenberg nu niet bepaald een topper is.

  en hij maar denken dat hij verleden jaar na monaco de teams voor het uitkiezen had. als hij toen had bijgetekend en nog 2 jaar had gebleven met aardige resultaten had hij zo vettel kunnen opvolgen. hij is gewoon een ´beetje´ dom geweest.

  Alsof Max nu spekkoper is.
  Hij ziet LEC langszij gaan in opportunities en een sterke Bottas.
  Hij kan nergens heen en mag hopen op het beste.

  Leclerc is goed maar bottas is ook sterk als die een goede dag heeft en zijn mercedes.. is er iets dan kan bottas niet zijn kop eromheen

  Ja hoor, daar zijn we weer. Een coureur heeft tegenslag en direct is zijn einde nabij. Inmiddels is hier hetzelfde geroepen over Vettel, Gasly, Kubica en Bottas.

  Van de week een heel pr verhaal van Renault en Ric dat ze de rem problemen hadden opgelost met de test in Bahrein toch weer het zoveelste BS VAN RENAULT.
