Norris en Sainz verwachten minder spectaculaire herstarts door nieuwe regels

McLaren-coureurs Lando Norris en Carlos Sainz zijn eensgezind over de nieuwe regels voor het inhalen na een safety car-fase. Zij verwachten dat de herstarts hierdoor minder spannend worden, omdat er pas later ingehaald mag worden.

De FIA heeft voor 2019 de regels rond het inhalen na een safety car-fase op de schop genomen. Voorheen mochten de coureurs al inhalen na een speciale safety car-lijn. Daardoor moest een leidende auto al vroeg het tempo opvoeren, om inhaalacties te voorkomen. In 2019 wordt echter de start-finishlijn aangehouden als punt vanaf waar ingehaald mag worden, waardoor de leider veel langer kan wachten met het opvoeren van het tempo.

Nieuwe regels beter voor leider

Norris stelt tegenover GPToday.net dat de nieuwe regels ertoe leiden dat herstarts minder spectaculair worden. "Bij veel herstarts van vorig jaar zag je dat iedereen naast elkaar reed ter hoogte van start-finish. Je hebt dus minder kansen om in te halen en terrein goed te maken. Het is beter voor de mensen die voor liggen, omdat ze minder kans hebben om ingehaald te worden. Als je erachter zit, is het waarschijnlijk iets minder goed, omdat je minder goed kan inhalen."

Teamgenoot Sainz vertelde woorden van gelijke strekking. "Het effect van slipstreamen is minder groot, omdat de leider pas bij start-finish begint op te trekken. Daardoor bereik je maar de vijfde, zesde versnelling voor je moet remmen voor bocht 1. Er is amper sprake van slipstreamen en inhalen, tenzij iemand er echt voor wil gaan in de eerste bocht."

Dat herstarts desondanks chaos kunnen veroorzaken in Azerbeidzjan, lieten de Formule 2-coureurs op zaterdag zien. Luca Ghiotto tikte voor start-finish Sergio Sette Camara de muur in en veroorzaakte een kettingreactie. "Zoals Lando zei, zal het minder spannend worden. Tenzij je in de Formule 2 rijdt en voor start-finish al tegen mensen aanrijdt. In die race was het een beetje chaotisch om te zien dat iedereen opgehouden werd."

Waarom nou zo'n regel aanpassen..... Juist de chaos die soms ontstaat, en dan doe ik niet op crashes of andere ongelukken, is altijd leuk.... Iedereen probeert dan wel een plekkie of meer te winnen en gaan er vaak vol voor....

Waarom nou zo'n regel aanpassen..... Juist de chaos die soms ontstaat, en dan doe ik niet op crashes of andere ongelukken, is altijd leuk.... Iedereen probeert dan wel een plekkie of meer te winnen en gaan er vaak vol voor....

  Sinds LM hetvroer heeft overgenomen gaat het hard achteruit. Ben nu al bang voor de nieuwe regels.

  Ik ken het onderscheid tussen LM en FIA. Ik constateer alleen iets. Tenzij jij vind dat de F1 beter geworden is. De FIA beslist maar LM heeft echt wel zeggenschap in de richting de F1 heen gaat

Ik zie het probleem niet zo.... of het nou bij start/finish is, of een speciale sc lijn, het idee blijft hetzelfde.

  Die Safety Car Line zit meestal vlak na de laatste bocht, dus diegene die vooraan rijdt moet eerder op het gas en de rest kan beter volgen omdat ze dichter bij elkaar door die laatste bocht gaan... Diegene die de bocht het beste uitkomt heeft meeste kans op een plekkie winst....
  Als je 'm verplaatst naar Start-Finish dan heb je het het probleem dat de voorligger gewoon volgas over de lijn komt en diegene die erachter zit 'm nooit kan inhalen voor het eind van het rechte stuk en bij de eerste bocht is het dan waarschijnlijk alweer te laat....
