Perez pakt P6 op 'geweldige dag' voor hem en Racing Point

Een van de beste mannen van het weekend in Azerbeidzjan was toch wel Sergio Perez. De Mexicaan kwalificeerde zich sterk als vijfde en eindigde de race op de zesde positie. Een goede dag voor hem en Racing Point.

Perez en het Baku City Circuit lijken voor elkaar gemaakt te zijn. In de voorgaande drie races op het circuit stond hij twee keer op het podium en in de andere race zag hij een potentieel goed resultaat verdwijnen door een vroege botsing met teamgenoot Esteban Ocon. Ook in 2019 zat de gang bij Perez er weer goed in in Azerbeidzjan.

'Geweldige dag voor Racing Point'

Op P6 was Perez de beste coureur die niet in een Mercedes, Ferrari en Red Bull plaatsnam. Na de race sprak de Racing Point-coureur van een goede dag voor zowel hemzelf als het team. "Het was een goede dag voor mij en voor het team. Daar ben ik erg blij mee. Ik kijk uit naar de update die we meenemen naar Barcelona. Dit was een fantastische dag voor het team."

Perez startte goed in Azerbeidzjan, want hij wist meteen de vierde positie van Max Verstappen over te nemen. Het duurde vervolgens vijf ronden voordat de Nederlander een succesvolle tegenaanval in kon zetten. Daarna was het wel snel afgelopen met de pret, want Perez kon het tempo van de coureurs van de topteams duidelijk niet volgen.

Niet kunnen bijhouden Red Bull geen schande

Dat is geen schande volgens Perez. Red Bull, Ferrari en Mercedes zijn teams die momenteel in een andere competitie rijden dan de overige teams. "Nee, zij rijden gewoon in een andere competitie. Dat konden wij vandaag niet bijhouden. Ik hoopte erop dat ik hem achter mij kon houden en dat lukte ook een aantal ronden, maar daarna draaide het voor mij meer om de McLarens. Hun snelheid was namelijk ook erg sterk."

In Barcelona zal er een grote update komen bij Racing Point en Perez hoopt daar verbeteringen te zien. "Dit zijn solide punten voor het team en daar ben ik erg tevreden mee. Vandaag was een goede dag en nu moeten we vooruitkijken naar Barcelona. Daar brengen we een goede update mee naar toe en hopelijk kunnen we dat omvormen in goede snelheid."

Eens, Perez hoorde driver of the day te krijgen. Maar hij was helaas niet veel in beeld en daarom krijgt Leclerc hem, terwijl Leclerc een heel slechte prestatie heeft neergezet.

Goede race van hem en de McLarens. Ook Stroll deed het prima in de schaduw van Perez. Naast het update pakket van Red Bull, ben ik ook erg benieuwd naar die van Racing Point. Renault en Ferrari waren ook dit weekend in mijn ogen de grootste verliezers. Renault van het middenveld, Ferrari van de toppers.

  Wat heeft Stroll zo goed gedaan dan? Finisht 37 seconden achter zijn teamgenoot, zonder verzachtende omstandigheden ben je normaal gesproken dan gedeclasseerd.

  Stroll prima? P15 kwalificeren terwijl Perez P5 kwalificeert en in de race 25 seconden toegeven? Tja, het is dan maar wat je prima noemt.
  
  Stroll bewijst keer op keer gewoon geen snelheid te hebben. Goed starten en een beetje racen kan hij wel. Maar hij is gewoon áltijd te langzaam. Eigenlijk was hij al langzamer dan Sirotkin (dat zegt ook wel wat) en Perez rijdt hem compleet de vernieling in (en dat was met Ocon zeker niet het geval). Duidelijke feiten toch?

  Jongens ik zou het even uitleggen. Ja hij was geen schim van Perez, zeker waar... maar ik had hem nog velen malen minder verwacht... vandaar de "prima" beoordeling. Niet goed... dat zeker niet, maar prima.

Elders zei ik het al, ik vond Perez de man van het weekend. Overal 100%. Best of the rest en foutloos.

En Stroll laat weer zien niet in de F1 thuis te horen. Natuurlijk is 9e leuk maar het gat met Perez was weer mega groot. En die kwalificaties van Stroll kunnen ook echt niet.
Maargoed, ik ben verder vooral blij dat dit team uberhaupt nog bestaat! Dus ik neem die zoon voor lief.
