Valtteri Bottas: "Verbeterde Mercedes voelt totaal anders dan tijdens de wintertest"

Mercedes AMG Petronas-coureur Valtteri Bottas vertelde na afloop van de eerste dag van de Grand Prix van Spanje dat zijn Mercedes W10 'totaal anders' aanvoelde dan de auto die men tijdens de wintertest ter beschikking had.

De Finse-coureur, leider in het wereldkampioenschap, was drie tienden van een seconden sneller dan de auto's van Ferrari in de tweede vrije training. Dit werd mede mogelijk gemaakt door de reeks van upgrades die Mercedes op beide auto's had gezet. "Het is altijd een interessante dag als je nieuwe onderdelen naar de auto brengt om er een idee van te krijgen of ze prestaties leveren die ze zouden moeten leveren", vertelde Bottas aan GPToday.net.

Mercedes leek in de eerste testweek achter de feiten aan te lopen, maar door hard werken en een goede engineering keerde de Duitse formatie het tij. Bottas vertelde verder dat: "De auto vandaag echt goed aanvoelde en compleet anders is dan in de wintertest."

"Het lijkt erop dat onze auto in de bochten is verbeterd. De balans in de auto is ook veel beter, dus het lijkt erop dat we sinds de winter de juiste richting zijn ingeslagen", vertelde de Mercedes-coureur.

Mercedes waakzaam voor Ferrari

"Vandaag was het echt goed, maar het is nog maar vrijdag en Ferrari staat dichtbij. Het voelt alsof we echt een stap voorwaarts hebben gezet, maar we moeten afwachten wat er morgen gaat gebeuren."

Lewis Hamilton was minder dan vijfhonderdste van een seconde langzamer dan Bottas. "Iedereen heeft hard gewerkt om het nieuwe pakket hier naartoe te brengen en er zit een heleboel arbeid in. Het lijkt alsof het werkt, maar het is moeilijk om dat te voelen aangezien dit circuit heel anders is dan in Baku."

Zien of het werkt??? Man heb je de race similatie van ham gezien op wit 1.22.6 terwijl ferrari 1.23.4 op geel en rood ,de RB was enkel goed op geel ,gelijk met Ferrari ,dus toch weer verstoppertje spelen ,mensen die auto is terug als hun eerste wagen in het turbo tijdperk oppermachtig ,denk dat het wk voorbij is wie wk wordt dat weten we nog niet

  Leclerc was volgens de gemiddelde long run tijden die Andrew Benson van de bbc op twitter heeft geplaatst een fractie sneller op de harde band dan Hamilton op hard:

  Op de andere twee banden was Mercedes wel een klap sneller dan de rest. Ferrari lag daarbij iets voor op Verstappen zn tijden:

  Medium: BOT 21.995 (10): VET 22.707 (15); VER 22.852 (5).
  
  Die 1:23.4 van de Ferraris waar jij het over hebt is niet terug te zien in het lijstje van de gemiddelde tijden

  Je moet niet kijken naar de eerste ronden wel naar de laatste ronden op rood van vettel hij heeft ik geloof 18 ronden op die rooie gereden ham 14 het verschil was meer de een halve seconde wanneer je de zelfde 14 de ronde vergelijkt

Wat is dat eigenlijk dit jaar met Bottas? Is hij nu zoveel beter geworden? Ligt de wagen hem beter? Wordt Hamilton minder? Het moet toch ergens aan liggen. Of is het een beetje van alles?

  denk beetje van alles, Hamilton heeft bijna alle records, dacht bottas op te kunnen rollen is met van alles bezig wat niet met F1 te maken heeft.
  
  Denk dat Hamilton nog niet wakker geschud is hahaha (dus idd beetje van alles en vooral een mentaal sterkere bottas)

  Bottas was vorig jaar in 2 rondjes voor het einde in leidende positie uitgevallen door een lekke band ( lag rommel op de baan) en had daarom 0 punten.
  Zouden we voor het gemak tellen dat hij Baku eigenlijk had moeten winnen dan had Bottas na 4 wedstrijden 65 punten gehad en Hamilton 63 punten , dus zie het verschil niet met dit seizoen

Bottas is niet beter of anders geworden , hij is nog steeds hetzelfde als voorheen , in het begin van het seizoen heel goed en daarna is het weer Hammertime ;-)

ik ben wel klaar met Mercedes en F1, nooit zo een dominantie gezien. Meer dan ooit zijn software, processor kracht en misschien zelfs artificiele intelligentie bepalend. F1 zit in een catch 22, willen de koningsklasse blijven moeten ze technologisch voor op blijven, blijven ze technologisch voorop dan wordt het een kampioen van computer nerds, no offence aan de informatica gemeenschap.
