Romain Grosjean: "Haas gaat de strijd aan met Red Bull Racing"

Rich Energy Haas F1-coureur Romain Grosjean denkt dat Haas met Red Bull Racing kan gaan strijden na een sterke vrijdag. De Fransman maakte gebruik van het nieuwe pakket wat de Amerikaanse-renstal introduceerde en eindige in de tweede vrije training voor Pierre Gasly. Grosjean in van mening dat de huidige vorm in de kwalificatie haar potentieel kan tonen.

"Ik ben zeer optimistisch", vertelde Grosjean tegen GPToday.net. "Ik heb het gevoel dat we met beide auto's in de top tien kunnen kwalificeren en misschien wel het gevecht naar Red Bull kunnen brengen. Ik denk dat er van onze kant nog wel iets in het vat zit en ik wil vandaag kijken tijdens de kwalificatie of we dat kunnen tonen. Het zou een mooie dag voor ons kunnen worden", verklaarde de optimistische Fransman.

Toch is Grosjean realistisch over een eventuele strijd met Red Bull: "Ik denk dat we in de mix zitten met hun. Wij dromen groot en willen zien waar dat ons naartoe brengt."

Honda gaat motoren opschroeven

Teamgenoot Kevin Magnussen zei dat Red Bull een duidelijk doelwit is voor Haas: "We zullen zien hoe Red Bull het gaat doen, maar ze lijken binnen handbereik te zijn."

"Je weet nooit welke snelheid ze kunnen hebben als ze de motoren vol open draaien, dus waarschijnlijk zal Red Bull het tempo gaan verhogen. Het is ons doel om het vierde team te zijn. McLaren leek snel, evenals Toro Rosso", verklaarde Magnussen.

Terwijl voorzichtig wordt gesproken over het verslaan van Red Bull, zei Magnussen dat hij men bij Haas het probleem met de banden onder de knie gaat krijgen: "Ik ben optimistisch. Het is een circuit waar het zeer moeilijk inhalen is. Ons tempo ziet er beter uit tijdens de langere runs. Ons kwalificatietempo ziet er fantastisch uit. Wij hebben geen reden om niet positief te zijn", sloot hij af.

Misschien dat de Haasjes met Gasly kunnen vechten, maar Max is different cook en zal geen enkele last van die gasten hebben.

  Het was mooi zolang het duurde maar deze RBR gaat dit jaar geen potten breken. Wat incidentele succesjes natuurlijk wel maar op dit circuit wat eigenlijk net zo kansloos is als Monaco wordt alles vanmiddag al grotendeels beslist.

Ik hou wel van die positiviteit, echter denk ik dat HAAS nog net niet goed genoeg is om RED BULL in de tang te nemen. Uiteraard wel goed dat ze zich verbeteren. En uiteraard moet je kunnen blijven dromen. Ik krijg ook wel de indruk dat men bij RBR weer achter de feiten aanloopt. Op naar de de race zondag, en verder zien we wel welke ontwikkelingen het seizoen ons brengt.

Het is goed om ambitieus te zijn. Het is wel belangrijk om je ambities enigszins af te stemmen op de werkelijkheid. Dat laatste schort het nog aan bij Grosjean.

Wel aandoenlijk dit opportunisme van Grosjean. Voor het eerst dit seizoen gaat die haas goed en dan zijn we gelijk in gevecht met RBR.

Volgens een aantal mensen hier zou Red Bull er vanaf Spanje er wel weer staan, dus moment of truth dit weekend ;) En anders schuiven we het wel een maandje op naar Canada ;)

Wellicht dat Haas Gasly kan verslaan in de kwalificatie maar ik denk dat Max verder naar voren gaat staan dan velen nu verwachten. Zijn laatste ronde zojuist in VT3 had hij zo'n beetje de snelste 1ste sector, zijn 2e sector zag er rommelig uit en de 3e sector ook waarin hij tevens flink werd opgehouden. Als Max binnen een halve seconde van pole kan komen dan ben ik zeer tevreden voorlopig.
