Verstappen kijkt uit naar laatste editie Jumbo Racedagen op Zandvoort

Zaterdag en zondag kunnen de Nederlandse Formule 1-fans alvast genieten van een voorproefje van de Nederlandse Grand Prix tijdens de Jumbo Racedagen op Circuit Zandvoort. Hoofdrolspeler Max Verstappen kijkt ernaar uit.

De Jumbo Racedagen worden in 2019 voor het vierde jaar op rij georganiseerd en traditioneel is ook Red Bull Racing weer van de partij op Circuit Zandvoort, dat zich eerder deze week verzekerde van een plekje op de kalender van de Formule 1 in 2020. Vorig jaar nam het Oostenrijkse team drie bolides mee naar de Racedagen, want toen kwamen naast Verstappen ook Daniel Ricciardo en David Coulthard in actie.

Ook in 2019 zet Red Bull Racing meer dan één auto in tijdens de demonstraties op het circuit. Naast Verstappen mag ook zijn nieuwe teamgenoot voor 2019, Pierre Gasly, deelnemen aan de festiviteiten op het circuit in de Noord-Hollandse duinen. Beide coureurs zullen gebruikmaken van een Red Bull RB7 uit 2011, die uitgerust is met een V8-motor. Dat bevalt Verstappen wel, zo vertelde hij aan Verstappen.nl.

"Ik denk dat het altijd mooi is om terug te komen naar Nederland, ook voor de fans die niet naar een Grand Prix kunnen gaan. Als dat dan ook nog kan met een V8-motor, die net wat beter klinkt dan een V6, maakt dat het alleen maar mooier. Hopelijk kunnen we weer wat nieuwe fans naar de Formule 1 trekken. Het blijft altijd een super mooi evenement om mee te maken."

Laatste editie Racedagen?

De Jumbo Racedagen lijken in 2020 geen vervolg te krijgen. Formule 1-CEO Chase Carey kondigde aan dat de Nederlandse Grand Prix volgend jaar begin mei gehouden zal worden, waarmee het qua moment in het jaar dicht op het moment van de Jumbo Racedagen zit. Daarnaast is Jumbo ook als een van de geldschieters betrokken bij de organisatie van de Formule 1-race.

In een persbericht maakte Jumbo wereldkundig dat de Racedagen in 2020 geïntegreerd zullen worden in het Grand Prix-weekend. Hoe dat precies ingevuld gaat worden, is nog onduidelijk. Er gaan geluiden rond dat de vrijdag een 'Jumbo-tintje' gaat krijgen, maar ook topman Frits van Eerd heeft daar nog niets over losgelaten.

@De Zeswieler misschien eerst een stuk met de auto gaan en die dan ergens parkeren bij een station in de buurt waar je wel vroeger met de trein richting Haarlem/Zandvoort kan? Vanaf b.v. Haarlem Spaarnwoude kan je al voor 7 uur s'morgens in Zandvoort zijn met de normale NS dienstregeling.. Om maa... [Lees verder]

  Het is gewoon een kwestie van ruim op tijd van huis afgaan. Sommige mensen gaan gewoon te laat op pad.

  Als ik 's ochtends met de eerste trein vanuit Eindhoven ga, dan ben ik toch pas tegen de klok van half 11 / 11uur echt op m'n plek naast de baan. Vroeger al ieder jaar met de Masters, miste ik toch al een stuk programma. Ik denk dat dit op de racedag in 2020 helemaal ellendig wordt; dan zijn alle goeie plekken al vergeven. je moest eigenlijk een trein hebben die om 5uur al aanrijdt in Eindhoven. Dan ben je tenminste nog enigszins op tijd..

Jumbo Racedagen wordt Jumbo Racedag op de donderdag begreep ik. Voorprogramma oo de vrijdag zal meer in het teken staan van andere raceklasses (hoewel het er naar uit ziet dat de F2 niet in het voorprogramma zal worden toegevoegd maar de onderhandelingen lopen nog)
Met de F1, Porsche Supercup en F3 zit het programma op de vrijdag, zaterdag en zondag al aardig vol. Jumbo zal zich vooral moeten richten op de donderdag.
