Ferrari denkt nog na over deelname aan Netflix-serie en Esports-kampioenschap

Ferrari is een van de weinige teams die nog geen medewerking verleend heeft aan de Netflix-serie en het Esports-kampioenschap van de Formule 1. Daar gaat dit jaar mogelijk verandering in komen, want het team overweegt deelname aan beide programma's.

Het Esports-kampioenschap van de Formule 1 begint later dit jaar aan haar derde seizoen en tot op heden is Ferrari het enige team dat geen medewerking verleende aan de strijd. Daardoor waren er telkens slechts 18 bolides op de baan, in plaats van de gebruikelijke 20. Brandon Leigh werd in beide seizoenen de kampioen, waarvan het laatste seizoen voor de Esports-divisie van Mercedes.

Nieuwe initiatieven spreken Binotto aan

Ferrari was eerder dit jaar ook geen onderdeel van de Netflix-serie 'Drive to Survive', iets wat ook gold voor de rivalen van Mercedes. Toto Wolff vertelde dat de regerend kampioenen afgezien hadden van deelname, omdat Ferrari het ook niet deed. Mercedes gaf recent al toe om deelname aan het tweede seizoen te overwegen en dat geldt ook voor Ferrari, zo vertelde teambaas Mattia Binotto.

"Het is een interessant programma. Als Ferrari deden we het afgelopen jaar niet mee. Momenteel overwegen we het nog en hebben we geen definitief besluit genomen. Dat is iets wat we in de komende weken zullen doen. Ik denk dat zowel de Esports als Netflix een geweldig programma is. De Esports beginnen steeds interessanter te worden en als Ferrari kijken we daar serieus naar."

Binotto benadrukt dat Ferrari nog geen keuzes gemaakt heeft over deelname aan een van de programma's en dat er binnen het team nog veel over gesproken wordt. "We hebben ons nog niet volledig gecommitteerd aan het programma. Het is iets waarover de discussies door blijven gaan en zeer binnenkort zullen we ons eigen besluit nemen."

  Niet alleen om die reden zou het goed zijn als Ferrari het doet. Het gesloten bolwerk dat Ferrari is, is niet meer van deze tijd. Dus hup: Ferrari en Merc, geef ons inzicht in jullie operatie!

  @Mrduplex Ik snap je punt. Maar we hebben hier te maken met sport/entertainment. Dat drijft op 'engagement'. En dus openheid. Laat ik mezelf bij dezen nuanceren: Ik vind de geslotenheid van Ferrari niet passen bij deze sport in deze tijd.

Ik vraag mij af, mogen ze al wel filmen bij Ferrari, maar besluiten ze later of het opgenomen materiaal mag worden verwerkt in de serie.
Of mag er nog niet gefilmd worden en missen ze zo dus het eerste deel van het seizoen.

  Dit dus. Ik hoop dat ze al filmen! Maar het kan ook zo zijn dat ze nog niet filmen omdat dit teveel zou afleiden. Dit was ook over vorig seizoen hun punt.
