Leclerc ontsnapt aan gridstraf voor Grand Prix van Monaco

Charles Leclerc is door de stewards niet bestraft voor het te snel rijden tijdens de virtual safety car in de derde vrije training in Monaco. De Monegask kwam weg met een reprimande.

De virtual safety car werd ingezet tijdens de derde vrije training in Monaco nadat Sebastian Vettel zijn Ferrari in bocht 1 tegen de omheining geparkeerd had. Coureurs moeten hun vaart minderen en een minimale rondetijd rijden, maar nog tijdens de sessie werd bekend dat de stewards een onderzoek gingen instellen naar een vergrijp van Leclerc, die zich niet aan de voorschriften gehouden zou hebben tijdens de virtual safety car.

Straf in lijn met vergelijkbare gevallen

Na de sessie meldde Leclerc zich bij de stewards om zijn kant van het verhaal uit te leggen met ondersteuning van data en telemetrie. Op basis van de bewijsstukken achtten de stewards Leclerc schuldig aan het vergrijp en dat bestraften ze met een reprimande. Volgens de wedstrijdleiding is dat in lijn mer hoe dergelijke vergrijpen tijdens vrije trainingen in het verleden ook beoordeeld zijn.

"De coureur remde duidelijk en naar gelang de situatie voor bocht 1 in een reactie op het incident in die bocht. De VSC verscheen toen hij tussen bocht 1 en 2 was en de coureur remde significant af, maar bleef wel onder de minimumtijd die de FIA ECU instelde voor het deel van het circuit na bocht 8", stond te lezen in de verklaring van de stewards.

"De stewards erkennen dat de coureur aanmerkelijk langzamer reed bij het vergrijp dan in een normale ronde. De VSC wordt echter om veiligheidsredenen ingezet, dus de stewards bepaalden dat de overtreding bestraft moet worden. De stewards delen daarom een reprimande uit, wat consistent is met gelijke gevallen tijdens trainingen."

Hij heeft duidelijk snelheid geminderd, geen gevaar veroorzaakt en geen profijt uit zijn gedrag gehaald. Terecht geen straf net zoals niemand daarvoor een straf zou verdienen.
Heeft met de FIA of voorkeursbehandeling niks te maken.

  Vorig jaar zeiden ze bij Ric hetzelfde..... duidelijk snelheid verminderd maar niet genoeg. Ric mocht in zijn thuisrace wel gridstraf ontvangen.

  Daar gaat weer een lange debriefing komen.
  450 miljoen per jaar gooi je gewoon weg met dit soort amateur beslissingen. Ga dan naar het budget van Renault, heb je in iedergeval een excuus
