Magnussen: "Niets ter wereld is beter dan racen met de huidige F1-auto's"

Kevin Magnussen is een grote fan van de huidige generatie Formule 1-auto's. Volgens de Haas F1-coureur is er niets ter wereld zo prettig als het besturen van de Formule 1-bolides op nieuwe banden en met weinig brandstof.

Er staan voor 2021 grote wijzigingen van het technische reglement van de Formule 1 op het programma. Er wordt gesproken over auto's die minder grip leveren, maar die wel in staat moeten zijn om andere auto's beter te volgen. Volgens Magnussen is het beter kunnen volgen van andere auto's inderdaad van belang, maar hij ziet de huidige generatie auto's met veel grip liever niet verdwijnen.

Magnussen wil behoud downforce en meer vermogen

Ook zou de Deen graag meer vermogen hebben, zo vertelde hij aan GPToday.net in Canada. "We zouden meer vermogen aankunnen. Er is momenteel zoveel grip, het is ongelooflijk. Het is fenomenaal om deze auto’s te besturen. Het is echt een genot om achter het stuur te zitten. Er is niets beters op deze wereld. Er is één ding dat in de buurt komt, maar dat kan er ook niet aan tippen."

"Vooral als je nieuwe banden en weinig brandstof hebt, is het geweldig om deze auto’s te besturen. Als we dit zouden hebben met meer vermogen en meer mogelijkheden om andere auto’s dichtbij te kunnen volgen, dan zou dat geweldig zijn."

Een enkeling in de Formule 1 lijkt te vragen om auto's die minder downforce produceren dan de huidige machines, maar Magnussen vindt dat een zwaktebod van die coureurs. "De coureurs die nu vragen om auto’s met minder downforce, kunnen niet overweg met deze snelle auto’s. Zij willen dus terug naar de situatie waarin ze wel goed waren. Verder is er niemand die langzamere auto’s wil."

Niet gebruiken kennis van coureurs voor reglementen 'vreemd'

Het is nog onduidelijk of de coureurs zeggenschap hebben in het proces van het maken van de nieuwe reglementen. Volgens Magnussen zou het niet verkeerd zijn als de FIA en Liberty de rijders om hun mening vragen. "Wij zijn de enigen die weten hoe de auto’s werken en voelen vanuit de cockpit gezien. We kunnen dus experts genoemd worden. Het is dus vreemd als onze expertise niet gebruikt wordt."

Magnussen moet het antwoord schuldig blijven of de coureurs zelf al de stap naar Liberty en de FIA genomen hebben. "Of we Liberty en de FIA benaderd hebben, moet je vragen aan Alex Würz (de voorzitter van de Grand Prix Drivers Association). Hij weet wat er wel en niet gedaan is. Ik wil hier niets over zeggen wat achteraf niet waar is. Het is iets wat we morgen tijdens de GPDA-meeting zullen aankaarten."

Als hij bedoelt wat ik denk dat hij bedoelt, kan je inderdaad beter gaan rijden ja, duurt nog langer ook dan anderhalve minuut.

Zo zie je dat iedereen er ander tegen aankijkt en het dus moeilijk (niet te doen) is om het iedereen naar de zin te maken.
Lewis heeft in een interview aangegeven dat hij de stuurbekrachtiging een flink stuk minder wil (of zelfs weg) en dat hij weer handgeschakelde bakken wil, het liefst met een V12 en betere banden.

  Het zou inderdaad mooi zijn als de rijders zich zouden verenigen en dan samen met een plan zouden komen hoe zij de toekomst van de F1 zien. Maar zoals al gezegd, waarschijnlijk wil elke rijder iets anders (lees wat het beste in zijn eigen straatje past), dus zal eensgezindheid ver te zoeken zijn.

  @WC MAX: Dat hadden we vroeger toch, in de vorm van de GPDA (Grand Prix Drivers Association), soort FNV voor coureurs ?. Maar het het nadeel was weer dat niet elke coureur zich daar bij aansloot.
  Wat jijzelf ook al aangeeft net als de teams hebben de coureurs ook weer verschillende (lees: eigen-) belangen....

  Klopt, ik meen dat die GPDA met name in het leven is geroepen inzake alles wat met veiligheid te maken heeft, niet zo zeer over hoe een de F1 vanuit oogpunt coureur hoort te zijn (geen banden en brandstof sparen, meer geluid, geen stuurbekrachtiging enz..)
