Binotto ziet vertrouwen bij Ferrari groeien na sterk optreden in Canada

Teleurstelling over de misgelopen zege heerst bij Ferrari, maar teambaas Mattia Binotto ziet ook positieve kanten aan het weekend in Canada. Hij ziet dat de sterke prestaties een vertrouwensboost gegeven hebben aan de teamleden.

Ferrari leek in de breedte het sterkste team te zijn in Montreal, waar Sebastian Vettel op de zege af leek te stevenen. De Duitser kreeg echter een controversiële straf, waardoor de winst uiteindelijk wederom naar Lewis Hamilton en Mercedes ging. Qua tempo zat de Scuderia er echter goed bij en dat zorgt voor vertrouwen binnen het team, stelt Binotto.

"We verlaten Canada met de kennis dat we vandaag en het hele weekend bewezen hebben dat we competitief zijn. Dat feit heeft voor het hele team gewerkt als vertrouwensbooster. We waren vandaag op de baan het snelste team en dat is belangrijk. We weten dat we een aantal zwakke punten moeten aanpakken, maar het seizoen is nog niet voorbij."

Woede bij Vettel 'een goed teken'

Na afloop van de race was de teleurstelling groot bij Vettel, maar de woede zo mogelijk nog groter. De Duitser meldde zich in eerste instantie niet bij de interviews voor de top 3 en wilde ook niet op de podiumceremonie verschijnen, maar uit respect voor Charles Leclerc, Hamilton en Mercedes verscheen hij daar wel. Binotto heeft begrip voor die woede en ziet het als iets positiefs.

"Het is een goed teken voor een coureur. Hij is hongerig, dat zijn we allemaal en dat gaat ons in de komende weken, maanden en races helpen. Natuurlijk zijn we als team momenteel teleurgesteld, maar de meeste van onze gedachten zijn bij Sebastian. Ik denk niet dat hij iets anders had kunnen doen, wat de reden is dat wij een beroep aangetekend hebben tegen het besluit van de stewards."

Motorisch dik voor elkaar bij Ferrari, GP in Montreal heeft dit duidelijk gemaakt. Nu het chassis en aero op orde krijgen. Ze nemen “bakken met updates” mee naar de komende races. Ben benieuwd wat dit gaat brengen. Ik hoop dat ze het voor elkaar krijgen.

  Is dat zo dat ze bakken met updates gaan meenemen. Voor Canada zei binotto nog enigszins gelaten dat er geen veranderen op de auto zijn aangebracht en dat de huidige problemen niet zomaar zijn op te lossen. Dan zou een groot aantal upgrades de volgende race me toch verbazen.

  @Snork: Bakken met updates mag je het wel noemen na wat Mr.Monza aangeeft met name voor een team wat eerst niet leek te weten waar het heen moest. Canada was natuurlijk een baan die de Ferrari's op voorhand wel beter zou liggen. Ik kan er wat dat betreft weinig moed uit halen dat de rode wagens eindelijk de boel aan de praat krijgen. Maar we zullen zien het zou wel mooi zijn als er inderdaad wat progressie geboekt gaat worden. Komen er misschien toch een paar races die wel interessant zijn, voor het WK maakt het allemaal niet meer uit helaas.

  Bij iedere race is de auto weer net even anders dan de auto bij de vorige race.
  Het is niet dat een update die werkt voor het ene circuit ook werk op een andere baan.

  Ik denk dat de auto al goed genoeg is. Misschien wat meer concentreren op Leclerq? Of het nu met opzet was of niet, Vettel bezweek weer onder druk. En Bottas liet ook zien waar de auto in vergelijking met de Mercedessen staat

Precies. In het afgelopen race weekend zaten meer positieve punten in voor Ferrari. Die gozer kon de Ferrari van Vettel niet eens inhalen op de baan. Was dat wel gebeurt dan had Vettel die gozer wel weer in sector 3 ingehaald. Een zege op Monza zit er voor Ferrari dit seizoen dik in:) kan niet wachten!
