Brawn ziet tekenen van herstel bij fabrieksteam Renault

Renault presteerde verrassend goed in Canada en dat is Ross Brawn ook opgevallen. De managing director van de Formule 1 ziet licht aan het einde van de tunnel voor het Franse fabrieksteam.

Renault werd in het vorige decennium twee keer wereldkampioen, maar sinds de terugkeer in de sport in 2016 heeft men het lastig. Vorig jaar werd het herstel licht ingezet met een vierde positie bij de constructeurs, maar de hooggespannen verwachtingen voor 2019 konden tot dusver niet waargemaakt worden. McLaren lijkt meer uit de motor te halen dan het fabrieksteam, maar in Canada zag Brawn positieve punten die hem positief stemmen over Renault.

'Licht aan het eind van de tunnel voor Renault'

"Montreal was het beste weekend van het jaar voor Renault. Beide fabrieksauto's en bolides van McLaren bereikten Q3, waarvan Daniel Ricciardo met de vierde positie op de grid de beste was. Op zondag hadden ze twee coureurs in de punten. Na een lastige tijd lijkt er licht aan het einde van de tunnel te zijn voor het Franse merk, hoewel er nog wel een significant gat is qua snelheid naar de drie topteams."

"Ricciardo's vierde plaats in de kwalificatie is absoluut een goed teken en een goede prestatie in de race - waarin hij ons bediende met een geweldig, maar veel te kort duel met Valtteri Bottas en de Mercedes - van hem en teamgenoot Nico Hülkenberg zijn het bewijs dat Renault langzaam terugkomt. We gaan nu naar de thuisrace van het team op Paul Ricard, wat ze ongetwijfeld nog meer motivatie geeft."

Ze waren inderdaad verrassend goed, maar 1 zwaluw maakt nog geen zomer. Gezien de recente geschiedenis van Abiteboul en co vind het ik nog veel te voorbarig om te zeggen dat er licht gloort aan het einde van de tunnel, ook niet als ze de komende race goed scoren.

Zie weinig verschil met vorig jaar. De ene race zijn ze het 4e team en de andere race komen ze niet eens door Q1. Los van dat zullen ze nog wel wat motoren de vernieling in helpen. Maar zo lang je regelmatig een 6e en 7e plaats pakt ben je aan het einde van de rit gewoon het 4e team. Dat zie ik dit jaar dan ook wel weer gebeuren gezien Mclaren ook nog niet heel stabiel presteert. Hoop dat ze tot het eind moeten knokken samen in ieder geval!

  Bij de nummers 1 t/m 3 zie je ook weinig verschil met vorig jaar....en toch boeken zij progressie net als Renault.

  Elk team boekt progressie ten opzichte van het jaar daarvoor, maar wat is herstel als je vorig jaar 4e bent geworden en je dit jaar 4e of 5e wordt? Vorig jaar vond ik Ferrari gelijkwaardig aan Mercedes trouwens en dit jaar niet dus daar ben ik het ook niet mee eens.

  Meer punten dan vorig jaar. Elke race op minder afstand gereden worden. Dan wordt er voortgang geboekt ook al zijn ze weer 4e.
  
  In het begin hebben ze inderdaad een rampzalig weekeinde gekend daarna valt het volgens mij wel mee.

Goed dat ze de motor weten te verbeteren. Maar kunnen ze ook de auto verbeteren? Bedoel bij aanvang van dit seizoen waren er ook hoge verwachtingen van Haas. Hebben nu ook een betere motor maar de auto laat het afweten in de races.

Vond er niks goeds aan....ja ze hebben puntjes gepakt..maar ze kregen wel een dikke ronde aan hun broek.

  Tsja, maar die ronde kregen de RBR's ook ongeveer aan hun broek.....de ene helemaal en de andere bijna. Ook niet iets om vrolijk van te worden.
  Denk dus niet dat je Renault moet gaan vergelijken met Mercedes op dit moment.
